There are No Restrictions Modern Newspeak News Very Messy Business

Since World War I, ‘the war to end all wars’, there have been perpetual wars for perpetual peace, this Laura Gray’s cartoon from the front page of The Militant August 18, 1945, Under the Banner Headline: “There Is No Peace”, is Still True for Today’s World!

Capitalism as a Failed  System: World Capilalism Has Been Aware of the Comming Catastrophe of Global Warming  Over 5 Decades Ago and Did Nothing!:  Under Capitalism — Human Lives Don’t Matter  Capitalism Does Not, and Never Has, Worked for the Masses! In Its Death Agony, Capitalism Is Traveling About The World Like The Four Horsemen of the The Apocalypse, Spreading  Racism,  War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. The  very future of Humanity Is Now At stake!During This Economic Crisis, Capitalism’s Three-Point Political Program: 1.Austerity,2. Scapegoat Blacks, Minorities, and ‘Illegal’ Immigrants for Unemployment, and 3.  The Iron Heel!    For Decades, Blacks Have Been Subjected to The Iron Heel!   Currently, the US Capitalist Class is Divided Over When — Not If, to Apply It to Everyone!

Due to Years of Austerity, Cuts to Public Health Care, And An Anti-Science and Profiteering President, The United States Now Leads the World In  Coronavirus Cases and Deaths in the World!

Always Remember:  That President Obama, With a Majority Democrat Legislature Supported the Wall Street Bailout and Remember, That he Established, in writing,  the United States Capitalist Austerity Program. —  The Race to the Bottom/Pauperization of the 99%!

Democracy?: As the Capitalist Robber Barons Steal from the 99%,  Only the 1% Voted For Austerity!   The 99% Should Decide On Austerity — Not Just The 1%, Who Profit From Austerity!!  Under Austerity, All of the World Will Eventually Be Pauperized, Humbled, and Desecrated Like Greece and Puerto Rico.!   Socialism Means True Democracy, that the 99% Will Rule, Not the Few! —

Quotes of the Day:

There are no restrictions on the length of Pinocchio’s nose. It grows as he tells lies and at one point grows so long that he can not even get his nose “through the door of the room”. — Pinocchio Paradox

Author and environmentalist Naomi Klein on Monday urged civil society organizations to boycott the 2023 COP climate summit in the United Arab Emirates—one of the world’s largest oil producers—after this year’s summit concluded without any concrete action to phase-out fossil fuels, despite the best efforts of campaigners from around the world.     Listing off some of the marked failures of COP27—from the host government of Egypt’s refusal to release political prisoner Alaa Abd El-Fattah to the “weak climate agreement that protects polluters”—Klein argued in a series of tweets that “now is the time to decide not to do this all over again next year, when the summit will be in the UAE. Of all places.” — ‘Let’s Try Something New’: Naomi Klein Calls for Boycott of Next COP Climate Summit

Many opponents of nuclear power contend that the failure at the Ohio plant is systemic to nuclear power plants as they get older. Since these things have occurred in the short run, how can anyone claim nuclear power to be safe when the half-life of many radioactive materials is longer than the existence of humanity? — Nuclear Power: What Have They Done to the Rain?

In the March 26, 2002, issue of the New York Times in an article titled “U.S. Orders Checks for Corrosion at Nuclear Reactors,” by Matthew I. Wald, states that: Nuclear reactor operators have been ordered to check their reactor vessels after the discovery that acid in cooling water had eaten a hole nearly all the way through the six-inch-thick lid of a reactor at a plant in Ohio. T he corrosion left only a stainless-steel liner less than a half-inch thick to hold in cooling water under more than 2,200 pounds of pressure per square inch.” At the 25-year-old Ohio plant, Davis-Besse, near Toledo, the stainless steel was bent by the pressure and would have broken if corrosion had continued, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where officials were surprised by the discovery.

United States:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Republicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich. Rax the Rich!  — They Can Afford To Pay!

We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.”  ― Louis Brandeis

Thuggish Ways: Mike Pompeo, Punishing Leakers and Getting Assange Poor, silly, protuberant Mike Pompeo.  The stocky, irritated former CIA director and former Secretary of State is rather upset that those who worked under him dared wag their tongues about Julian Assange.  The wagging so happened to relate to contemplated plans of abduction and assassination, something the US executive formally disallows though permits via various devious mechanisms.     t’s not every day that officials of the Central Intelligence Agency open up about their operations but on the occasion of the Yahoo! News report, it was clear that Assange had driven a number to sheer distraction.  Had these security types caught the bug of transparency?  Unlikely, but it might have been a slight rash of irritation doing the rounds in the clandestine community.

Elon Musk Twitter Purchase Furthers the Media Concentration that Harms Democracy Social media has gotten a bad name in recent years, much of it deserved, as it has played a sizable role in spreading right-wing backwardness and even authoritarianism in much of the world. This includes, most prominently, the reach and especially staying power of the world’s most powerful politician in the world’s most powerful country, Donald J. Trump. But first, to avoid exaggeration or a misleading picture, we must recognize that the problems of misinformation and disinformation that enable 21st century politics to “build a bridge to the 19th century” are bigger than Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. The traditional media has also failed us in important ways.\

Moving Beyond Single-Issue Politics The idea of a movement of movements has bounced around for many years, for a movement that would transcend single-issue boundaries to accomplish a broad and transformative agenda. The idea has a basic logic, that the towering challenges that face us – climate and general ecological deterioration, wealth inequality and social justice, war and peace – have common and systemic roots. We are unable to successfully address any one issue on its own because they are woven together by the realities of who has power in society. Only a unified movement of movements capable of carrying a coherent and broad-ranging vision for systemic transformation can overcome those realities and accomplish real change.

Critics Decry ‘Disappointing’ Billion-Dollar Biden Bailout Of California’s Last Nuclear Plant “Instead Of Putting Diablo Canyon Back On Life Support, Dependent On A Drip Of Taxpayer Subsidies, California Should Turn A New Leaf And Lean Into Building The Electric System Of The Future,” Said One Campaigner. The U.S. Department Of Energy (DOE) Said It Will Award $1.1 Billion In Credits To Pacific Gas & Electric—Which Has Pleaded Guilty To Numerous Manslaughter Charges  resulting from dozens of wildfires caused by the utility—to keep the Diablo Canyon plant, located near Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County, online. Deregulate Nuclear Power?: Nuclear Guinea Pigs: NRC’s Licensing of Experimental Nuclear Plants How the NRC’s new licensing rules could turn communities into test beds for risky, experimental nuclear plants,” is what physicist Dr. Edwin Lyman, Director of Nuclear Power Safety with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), titled his presentation last week.     The talk was about how the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is involved in a major change of its “rules” and “guidance” to reduce government regulations for what the nuclear industry calls “advanced” nuclear power plants.

Environment: Ecosocialism or Ecocide!:

Going Nuclear: Artists and Activists Take On Diablo Canyon

From The Guardian: Make Ecocide An International Crime And Other Legal Ideas to Help Save The Planet A list of the five most promising legal steps we can take to help fight climate change The world has reached an acute point in the “highway to climate hell”. Talks at Cop27 barely achieved anything, despite the fact that almost one-third of Pakistan’s territory was submerged during unprecedented flooding; record heat over the summer killed nearly 25,000 in Europe; and almost 200,000 people in a major US city have not had clean water for months.     It’s all too easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless in the face of such widespread catastrophe. But we as citizens can do something right now. There are many interesting and entirely workable legal ideas percolating around the world from some very thoughtful people. Together, alongside increased citizen activism, these ideas can begin to provide a coherent and comprehensive legal framework for all of us to help save the planet’.

Stop COP Fossil fuel interests have taken over climate talks. The acronym COP for “Conference of the Parties” should be changed to “Continue Oil Production.” Eighteen of the twenty companies that sponsored UN climate talks at the make-believe Egyptian resort Sharm El-Sheikh either directly support or partner with oil and gas companies. Global Witness/London identified at least 636 fossil lobbyists at COP27. What are fossil fuel lobbyists doing at a climate conference?

Guaranteeing a Nuclear Disaster: Nuclear Guinea Pigs: NRC’s Licensing of Experimental Nuclear Plants “Guinea Pig Nation: How the NRC’s new licensing rules could turn communities into test beds for risky, experimental nuclear plants,” is what physicist Dr. Edwin Lyman, Director of Nuclear Power Safety with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), titled his presentation last week.  Diablo Canyon Nulear Power Plant is Over 37Years Old and Has a Planned Decommission Date 2030!:

The 4 Extinction Accelerating Climate Change & Global Warming Tipping Points This page explains the four global warming extinction-accelerating tipping points. This page also explains why we have only about three years left (and maybe, if we are very lucky, up to 9 years left (2025-2031) to get the climate change emergency under control before the climate change near-total extinc-tion processes take over completely.  This page also helps explain why we have predicted that about half of humanity will perish from climate change-related primary and secondary consequences by mid-century. Unfortunately, many climate activists and environmental organizations still do not know where runaway global heating becomes fully beyond our control or where the climate survival threshold and its final deadline exist. Consequently, they develop climate change education and remedial action programs that do not fit the true urgency of our global heating extinction emergency.     When reading the four tipping points described below, keep in mind that:

  1. we are almost out of time to do something about them (unless we get close to these 2025 global fossil fuel reduction targets) and
  2. the following four tipping points both define and highlight the key elements and essence of what makes up our current global warming extinction emergency.
  3. the first three tipping points trigger an unavoidable mass extinction by mid-century. The last tipping point triggers near-total extinction not long after that.

To set the final stage for your discovery of the four critical tipping points and deadlines, it is also advantageous to review what is happening in our climate right now:

  1. At our current atmospheric carbon levels, we are already experiencing more and worsening extreme droughts and storms, wildfires, rain bombs, bomb cyclones, hurricanes, and other wild and unseasonable weather.
  2. At our current atmospheric carbon level of about 420 ppm, the stability of the bellwether West Antarctic ice sheet has already been breachedand this ice loss is now irreversible. (This ice sheet plays a critical role in rising sea levels. This ice sheet is also an excellent example of one of many critical global warming tipping points  the world has hurdled past far faster than anyone had predicted or foreseen.)
  3. The Earth’s temperature has risen radically(exponentially) since the industrial revolution from the previous stable range it held for thousands of years. It will continue to rise radically as we fail to reduce our global fossil fuel use. Please notice how the average global temperature is rising faster and faster over shorter and shorter periods of time.
  4. Since 1970 alone average global temperature rose from preindustrial levels from .7 degrees Celcius to 1.4 degrees Celcius. That is a faster average global temperature rise than has occurred in over one million years! At our current increasing fossil fuel use rates, we will soon cross the 2.0 – 2.7 Celcius degree increase from the preindustrial levels mark sometime near 2025.

Labor:

Councilmember Sawant Stands with Rail Workers! “Socialist Alternative and my office  in solidarity with the 120,000 railroad workers across 13 unions fighting for a fair contract that includes paid sick days, affordable healthcare, wages that keep up with inflation, and fixes to the severe staffing and safety crises facing rail workers. We support today’s railroad workers’ National Day of Action to demand more than the abysmal changes the railroad billionaires and the Biden administration have been willing to offer. Community organizers from my office will be joining picketing railroaders today at the Argo yard in SODO.      “The railroad workers are fighting for all of us — for every worker who is forced to do without paid sick leave and is unable to take care of themselves or loved ones without being subject to cruel threats from their employers. That’s why it is crucial that the entire labor movement stand with railroad workers if they choose to reject the current inadequate contract offer, negotiated undemocratically behind closed doors, and start preparing for a strike.

Economy:

Civil Society Groups to IMF: Abolish Surcharges to Help Finance Climate Action The International Monetary Fund’s current surcharge policy exemplifies how the powerful financial institution puts “itself before people and the planet,” said one critic.

Tech Sector Layoffs: The Bubble Begins to Burst Mass sackings are occurring across the tech industry, including at online behemoths such as Twitter and Facebook, portending trouble for investors, users, and employees. It is time to take Big Tech under public ownership and workers’ control. Social media giant Twitter has descended into chaos following Elon Musk’s recent $44 billion purchase of the microblogging platform.

Michael Roberts: Shock Therapy on the Global Economy The cost of borrowing and servicing debt is rocketing. Suddenly, investors holding government bonds are facing serious losses, particularly pension funds in Europe that tend to invest in long-term bonds using short-term interest rates to borrow—short-term interest rates are up; long-term bond prices are down. That’s a mismatch in asset values. In the case of the United Kingdom, pension funds and others had been employing a piece of financial jiggerypokery called “liability-driven investment” schemes. This was the practice of buying bonds that were then used as collateral for loans to purchase more bonds—as much as £1.5 tn over the last decade since the Global Financial Crisis. If the value of the bonds used as collateral drops like a stone, as it has just done, then the ability to borrow vanishes. So the Bank of England (BoE) has been forced to loan £65 bn to such bondholders to bail them out of their Ponzi scheme.

U.S. Justice Department Steps into the FTX Bankruptcy Case in Delaware Two attorneys from the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. have filed an appearance with the Bankruptcy Court in Delaware that is hearing the bankruptcy case filed by the disgraced crypto exchange, FTX, and its related hedge fund, Alameda Research. Both are majority-owned by the scandalized former crypto kingpin Sam Bankman-Fried. More than 100 other global tentacles of FTX are included in the bankruptcy case. The DOJ attorneys that made the notices of appearance are Seth Shapiro and Stanton McManus.   The notice of appearance for both attorneys references two noteworthy statutes, 28 U.S.C. § 516 and 518, among others: 28 U.S.C. § 516 reads as follows:

Education, Health, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘:’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare
