Quotes of the Day:
The first civil and human rights movement by and for Black people started during the Civil War and the period of Black Reconstruction that followed. It was a time of radical hopes for many freed slaves. But it was also a time of betrayal. Then President Andrew Johnson and the non-radical Republicans, in collusion with the Democratic Party, the party of slavery, sold out the early post-war promises for full equality and “40 acres and a mule”. Instead, the promise of equality was soon replaced by the restoration of the property rights of the former slave owners in the South. This was accomplished by the Compromise of 1877. . . . How did they accomplish this betrayal? The answer is simple —By the Use of Terrorism! — They used police and terroristic Ku Klux Klan violence. These extra-legal and ‘legal’ activities laid the basis for the overthrow of Black Reconstruction and the institutionalization of legal segregation (Jim Crow) in the former slave states. To enforce Jim Crow, Black people were, for decades, indiscriminately lynched and framed. — Roland Sheppard, The Rise and Fall of the Civil Rights Movement
United States:
The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War! Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from th poor and gives to the Rich. Taxthe Rich! — They Can Afford to Pay!
Chris Hedges: No Way Out But War Permanent war has cannibalized the country. It has created a social, political, and economic morass. Each new military debacle is another nail in the coffin of Pax Americana. The United States, as the near unanimous vote to provide nearly $40 billion in aid to Ukraine illustrates, is trapped in the death spiral of unchecked militarism.

Environment —Ecosocialism or Ecocied!:
Greenhouse Gases Trapped Nearly 50% More Heat Last Year Tan in 1990: NOAA Eliminating CO2 pollution has to be front and center in any efforts to deal with climate change.” “Getting hot in here,” said one climate campaigner. “Gotta get congressmen and senators to do more midday outdoor events in their dark suits An annual assessment released Monday by a U.S. agency underscored the need to dramatically cut planet-warming pollution with a notable revelation about heat-trapping gases over the past three decades. Greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution from human activities trapped 49% more heat in the atmosphere in 2021 than in 1990, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Oil Giant Consultant Resigns, Citing Operations Beyond ‘Limits of Our Planetary Systems’ “I can no longer work for a company that ignores all the alarms and dismisses the risks of climate change and ecological collapse.” A long-time Shell consultant based in the United Kingdom quit with a bang on Monday, condemning the fossil fuel giant for its dangerous efforts to expand oil and gas production despite numerous scientific warnings about the need for swift decarbonization to avert climate disaster.

United States: Buffalo Killings Reveal Depth of White Extremism (Terrorism) White supremacist Payton Gendron arrived at a shopping centre in a mostly-Black community in Buffalo, New York, on May 15 with the intent to kill as many Black people as possible. The 18 year old drove 300 kilometres from his home, heavily-armed and with body armour, before shooting and killing 10 Black people. He was inspired by the racially-motivated massacre in New Zealand by right wing terrorist Brenton Tarrant in 2019 and white supremacists in the United States. Federal officials said they are investigating the case as a racially-motivated hate crime. Black people have known white terror for more than 400 years, which is growing since the rise of Trumpism and white nationalism. Millions of white people now falsely believe people of colour, and a multicultural society, are a threat to their “superior” way of life.
School Board Considers Reverting School Names Back to Confederate Generals The schools’ names were originally changed after the police murder of George Floyd and the uprisings that followed. A school district in Virginia is considering reverting two of its schools’ names back to their previous monikers, which honored Confederate Civil War generals and enslavers Stonewall Jackson, Turner Ashby and Robert E. Lee.

Wall Street Traders Are Being Ordered to Hand Over their Personal Phones for Examination by the Firm’s Last Wednesday Bloomberg News reported, without citing a source, that the Securities and Exchange Commission was “forcing Wall Street banks to embark on a systematic search through more than 100 personal mobile phones carried by top traders and dealmakers….” But according to Bloomberg’s report, SEC lawyers were not actually examining the phones themselves for evidence of insider trading or rigging markets. Instead, Bloomberg reports that “banks are arranging for outside attorneys to help conduct the reviews, acting as intermediaries and preserving some semblance of privacy.” (If an outside lawyer being paid by one’s employer is reading sexting messages between a trader and his girlfriend on his personal phone, there is zero “semblance of privacy” and that trader has every right to feel his privacy has been violated.)

French Legislative Elections: The Flaws and Dangers of Mélenchon’s Coalition The NUPES (New Ecological and Social Popular Union) list, led by La France Insoumise (FI), is seen by left-wing workers and youth as the best vehicle to strike blows against the right in June’s legislative elections. The French Marxists critically support voting for NUPES candidates. But we must say that this alliance with discredited, right-wing reformist parties risks demobilising FI’s support base, and will undermine their ability to carry out social reforms in government, in the event of an NUPES majority.
Lebanon Elections: Hezbollah Loses Majority as Independents Break Through As the Lebanese elections draw to a close, it is clear that a major shift is taking place in the balance of power. The March 8 Alliance, a coalition of Hezbollah, Haraket Amal, and the Christian Free Patriotic Movement, has lost the majority they have held since 2018. They were reduced from 71 seats, which gave them a majority, to 58 seats, whilst the opposition Christian Lebanese Forces (LF) surged forward. Alongside the two traditional sectarian opposition parties, a new wave of independent candidates has also broken through. Thirteen independent candidates won seats under a broad banner called ‘Change’.
Education, Health, and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be, a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People Vote on Heslthcare!
The Green Side of White Coat Supremacy Anthony Fauci and NIH boss Francis Collins got part of $350 million in undisclosed royalties. “An estimated $350 million in undisclosed royalties were paid to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and hundreds of its scientists,” the Epoch Times reports, “including the agency’s recently departed director, Dr. Francis Collins, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, according to a nonprofit government watchdog.” That watchdog is Open the Books, headed by Adam Andrzejewski. From 2010 to 2020, Andrzejewski told reporters, “Francis Collins, the immediate past director of NIH, received 14 payments. Dr. Anthony Fauci received 23 payments and his deputy, Clifford Lane, received eight payments.” Trouble is, the NIH heavily redacted the information.
