Due to Years of Austerity, Cuts to Public Health Care, And An Anti-Science and Profiteering President, The United States Now Leads the World In Coronavirus Cases and Deaths in the World!
Always Remember: That President Obama, With a Majority Democrat Legislature Supported the Wall Street Bailout and Remember, That he Established, in writing, the United States Capitalist Austerity Program. — The Race to the Bottom/Pauperization of the 99%!
Democracy?: As the Capitalist Robber Barons Steal from the 99%, Only the 1% Voted For Austerity! The 99% Should Decide On Austerity — Not Just The 1% Who, Profit From Austerity!! Under Austerity, All of the World Will Eventually Be Pauperized, Humbled, and Desecrated Like Greece and Puerto Rico.! Socialism Means True Democracy, that the 99% Will Rule, Not the Few!
Quotes 0f the Day:
But Rittenhouse shot white people! Doesn’t that prove he’s not a racist? No. He shot race traitors, white people protesting the police shootings of blacks. During Reconstruction some of the most sadistic murders in the South were committed against so-called Radical Republicans, Southerners who supported emancipation and black suffrage, a threat that needed to be completely neutralized before JIm Crow could be implemented. — Jeffrey St. Clair
The Deacons were instrumental in many campaigns led by the Civil Rights Movement. A good example is the June 1966 March Against Fear, which went from Memphis, Tennessee, to Jackson, Mississippi. The March Against Fear signified a shift in character and power in the southern civil rights movement and was an event in which the Deacons participated. . .Scholar Akinyele O. Umoja speaks about the group’s effort more specifically. According to Umoja it was the urging of Stokely Carmichael that the Deacons were to be used as security for the march. Many times protection from the federal or state government was either inadequate or not given, even while knowing that groups like the Klan would commit violent acts against civil rights workers. — The Rise and Fall of the Civil Rights Movement
Videos of the Day:
The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through. their ownershipof the Reublicrats, who profit from war and the war budget, voted for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War! Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich. Tax the Rich! — They Can Afford To Pay!
The UnitedStaes Interventions in the World, are Not to ‘Spread Democracy’, — But to Create and/or Give Aid and Comfort Comfort tot he Dictators of the World!! From: Nearly 3/4 of the World’s Dictators Receive US Weapons and Military Assistance! The US supports nearly 75% of the world’s dictators, autocracies, monarchies, military regimes, etc., with weapons, military training and money. Please remember this the next time someone tells you the US should do X or Y because such and such a nation is bad…. Comparing Freedom House’s list of Not Free nations* to FY 2020 US overseas weapons sales, military training and financial assistance**, we find that of the 57 nations considered undemocratic, 42 receive weapons, training and/or money for their military and security services. This means 74% of the non-democratic nations of the world are supported militarily by the US. Interestingly, the remaining 15 nations are nearly all sanctioned. The world’s countries can be divided into two parts: those who buy/receive weapons from the US and those sanctioned. It seems like it’s a pretty simple arrangement. 74% is a slight increase from four years ago when Rich Whitney at Truthout utilized the Freedom House list and compared it to FY 2015 military assistance data. It is likely no surprise to anyone that US support for non-democratic governments increased under President Trump, but, to be fair, it was a minor increase. The hypocrisy and dissonance between stated US support for democracy, liberty and freedom, and how the US government conducts itself exists whether a Democrat or Republican is in the White House.
A Land Where Justice is a Game Another right-wing vigilante walks free in the USA. The fact that I was even mildly hopeful Kyle Rittenhouse would get some prison time only proves my eternal optimism. Once again, that optimism was misplaced. After all, it is the United States of America that I’m talking about; a nation whose history is replete with stories of white men walking free after murdering individuals who made them afraid. It is the United States of America; a nation whose history is replete with stories of Black men lynched, executed, or imprisoned for crimes the state knew they didn’t commit. It is the United States of America; a land where the defense of property takes precedence over human life in the courts and in the streets. Especially when that property is owned by a white man. Nothing could be more typically American than Kyle Rittenhouse’s murder spree and its aftermath. From the shooting itself to his courtroom defense that he “was only defending himself,” the entire scenario reeks of arrogance and sociopathy. Indeed, it’s a perfect metaphor for the US empire and its “foreign policy,” where the concept of self-defense often involves traveling away from one’s home with a loaded weapon, walking down unfamiliar streets away from home, and then murdering people who tell you to go away?
National Defense and Dead Children A new defense budget looms. Maybe we’re running out of wars to fight, but no matter. The proposed figure before Congress is bigger than ever: $778 billion. How fascinating — and how irrelevant — that the vote is scheduled just a few days after the New York Times published its investigation of a U.S. airstrike in Baghuz, Syria two and a half years ago, which the Defense Department had been desperately trying to cover up.
Ralph Nader: The Corporate Demolition of Our Pillars of Freedom As cases of corporate violence increase, company executives escape fines, admissions, and often are promoted or let go with huge multi-million-dollar severance payments. The disposition of the Boeing mans-laughtering of 346 trusting passengers and crew in the 737 MAX crashes (Indonesia – 2018 and Ethiopia – 2019) further weakens the system of tort law and individual pursuits of justice after wrongful deaths. How Boeing Does Safety Inspections White Men With Guns There is nothing new about the provocation of armed white men in America. Nor is it new as we witness the claims of self-defense by the defendants in two high profile trials. Kyle Rittenhouse, the would be soldier-cum-vigilante in Kenosha, and the McMichaels, father and son in Brunswick, Georgia, only current examples of endless encounters, and too often, as in the case of Trayvon Martin, Black men have been the victims. But as the tragedy in Wisconsin indicates, white men are not exempt. It’s mind-boggling, but not surprising, that someone toting an AR-15 and aiming it at unarmed citizens can claim self-defense. But this is what the jury in Kenosha is in the process of deliberating. And one of the key elements in the six charges brought against Rittenhouse—his possession of a dangerous weapon was dismissed by the judge since it was not a short-barreled rifle. Whether the dismissal removes the likelihood of conviction is in the hands of the jury, which we hope are not as flummoxed and confused as they were listening to Judge Bruce Schroeder’s instruction to the jurors. One of the questions they raised was about the issue of self-defense and that is certainly to be of paramount importance in the decision.
20 Years of the war On Terror — Pax Americana . . . The Day the War Came to America: America entered the 21st century still convinced that it was the guiding force of world politics. In the decades since the end of the Second World War, America’s policy of aggressive and passive intervention saw some success and many failures. Though American intervention destablised many political regions across the world, it also helped stop genocides and crimes against humanity as it did in its intervention in Rwanda for instance. While there were calls to reduce the scale and influence of the US military-industrial complex after the end of the Cold War, it by and large continued on, fuelled by America’s unceasing interventions abroad. Then came September 11, 2001, and America changed. Hijacked American airlines crashed into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Altogether, nearly 3,000 American lives were lost in the attacks. The public was beyond shocked. Not since Vietnam had America seen such loss of life. Moreover, this was on their shores. America’s war to bring ‘peace’ to the world had finally come to its own lands. Congress was galvanised. NATO was roused. The. military-industrial complex was essentially handed a blank check and a new generation of American soldiers made ready for the ‘war on terror’, wherever it may take them. A new series of acts were passed into law to aid the effort including the Patriot Act which allowed the government to ignore the privacy and rights of individuals in the name of national defence. New agencies such as the Department for Homeland Defence were constituted to safeguard America against any future attacks. America was ready for another generation of wars.
Environment:
Even on its own terms, the outcome of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow was catastrophic. . . . And so one of the major successes being touted at the conference is an agreement signed by 40 countries to phase out coal power by the 2030s for the coloniser economies and 2040s for the colonised, and to end all investment in new coal power generation. China has not agreed to reduce coal production and burning at home. There has also been much fanfare about the surprise agreement between the United States – historically the largest contributor to climate breakdown – and China – currently the largest national contributor. But even here the response of many at COP26 has been characterized thus: “This was a stage-managed nothingburger. There was nothing new bar words, nothing on coal, finance or loss and damage.” — The failure of COPitalism
To Keep Fossil Carbon Out of the Air, Just Stop Pulling It Out of the Earth Expectations for the 2021 COP26 climate summit were always low. They had dimmed even further by the time the prominent climate activist Vanessa Nakate of Uganda spoke from the main stage on the Glasgow conference’s next-to-last day. Nakate chided her audience for sleepwalking toward catastrophe: “We see business leaders and investors flying into COP on private jets. We see them making fancy speeches. We hear about new pledges and promises. … I have come here to tell you that we don’t believe you.” She added, “I am here to say, prove us wrong.” Throughout the summit, people of all ages and backgrounds had rallied in the streets outside to demand effective climate action, climate justice, an end to exploitation, and other policies through which the world’s governments might prove Nakate wrong. On November 5, more than 8,000 children, teenagers, parents, and teachers marched through the city, calling on the generation now in power not to ruin the future for generations who follow. The next day, a surge of more than 100,000 climate marchers demanded an end to fossil fuel investments, a global conversion to renewable energy financed by wealthy countries, and reparations for Indigenous communities.
Devastation in B.C.: Massive Flooding Disrupts Supply Chains, Plunges Communities into ChaosThis story includes details about the impacts of climate change that may be difficult for some readers. If you are feeling overwhelmed by this crisis situation here is a list of resources on how to cope with fears and feelings about the scope and pace of the climate crisis. As rescue workers continue to search for the missing and communities struggle to cope with broken supply chains, damaged and endangered infrastructure, and lost homes and livelihoods in the wake of British Columbia’s catastrophic rainstorm, experts warn of many more such “disaster cascades” to come in an overheating world. On November 17, B.C. Premier John Horgan declared a province-wide state of emergency to help those struggling to clear and repair the vital web of highways and railroads that suffered supply chain-shattering damage during last weekend’s rainstorm. In effect for at least the next 14 days, the state of emergency brings in travel restrictions designed to keep roads clear for repair crews, as well as for medical and emergency personnel, reports CBC News.
Civil Rights/Black Liberation:
Be Prepared!: ‘To Be Forewarned it to be Foretold!’ : 2016: FBI Warned of White Supremacists in Law Enforcement 10 Years Ago. Has Anything Changed? Increased attention toward the killing of black men and women by police throughout the past year has ignited national conversations on racism and law enforcement. From Freddie Gray in April 2015 to Deborah Danner — an “emotionally disturbed” woman fatally shot this week by an NYPD officer — protests around the country have forced many Americans to reassess how police engage with communities of color.
Kyle Rittenhouse Didn’t Act Alone: Law Enforcement Must Be Held Accountable The massive show of force from 40 law enforcement agencies in Kenosha didn’t make anyone safer. For two weeks, we’ve heard trial testimony and seen evidence of the events that occurred on August 25, 2020 — the night that Kyle Rittenhouse shot and killed two people and injured another during a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin. While Rittenhouse was not held accountable, he was not the only one whose conduct on that deadly night should be scrutinized. The actions — and inaction — of the Kenosha Police Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department in the preceding 72 hours played a critical part in the tragic events that took place.
Labor:
Part of the ‘Great Resignation’ Is Actually Just Mothers Forced io Leave Their Jobs During the pandemic, women have exited the labor force at twice the rate of men; their participation in the paid labor force is now the lowest it has been in more than 30 years.
The Pandemic Exposed the Human Cost Of the Meatpacking Industry’s Power: ‘It’s Enormously Frightening’ (I knew a few people, who worked in meatpacking plants, the had to cut meat very fast. All of them had scars on their bodies!) The message from companies and regulators has been clear: Americans need meat, and workers need to risk their lives to provide it Early in the pandemic, Covid outbreaks were rampant in America’s meatpacking plants – the factories that kill, cut and package animals. But the chairman of one of biggest meat companies in the US, Tyson, argued that these factories should stay open to feed Americans. “It is as essential as healthcare,” John Tyson wrote in several newspaper ads. Days later Donald Trump issued an executive order to keep meat plants running. The following month, 49 meatpacking workers died of Covid.
Economy:
Why Is JPMorgan Chase Making “Emergency” Payments to a Former Government Official Tied to Jamie Dimon? We have been reading lawsuits filed against Wall Street firms in the federal district court in the Southern District of New York for more than three decades. We didn’t think that we could still be shocked by what victims of Wall Street’s abuses tell the court. But the lawsuit filed on November 11 by Shaquala Williams against JPMorgan Chase contains allegations that are both stunning and unprecedented in our experience.

India: Farmers Defeat Modi! After a year-long battle, India’s farmers have at last defeated the right-wing Modi government and its capitalist masters, forcing a repeal of their three reactionary farm laws. This is a big victory for the farmers that has been achieved through a courageous struggle, which has been tenaciously maintained since September 2020.
Education.Health,and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be, a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People Vote on Healthcare
The Corporate Plan to Murder Medicare Runs Through Medicare Advantage If they can move more than half of Americans off traditional Medicare and onto these corporate plans, it’ll provide the political cover to kill off Medicare altogether—and they’re nearly there now. Covid Killed More Americans in 2021 Than 2020, and the GOP Death Cult Is Mostly to Blame Every three days, COVID-19 kills as many people as the 9/11 attacks did. The number of dead from COVID-19 in the U.S. in 2021, as of yesterday, November 20, surpassed the deadly toll of 2020. Some 771,013 Americans have died of the novel coronavirus as of this writing, according to Johns Hopkins. The CDC estimates that 385,343 people died of COVID-19 in 2020.Alarm Grows as Covid Cases Spike in Europe and US Deaths in 2021 Top 2020’s Toll “Wealthy nations need to understand that unless everyone everywhere is vaccinated, the situation is not going to change.” Europe is in the grip of a potentially devastating fourth coronavirus wave and the United States has now recorded more Covid-19 deaths in 2021 than it did in 2020, heightening alarm among public health experts who fear another brutal winter surge. Dr. Hans Kluge, the World Health Organization’s regional director for Europe, warned Saturday that the coronavirus could kill 500,000 more people in Europe by March if political leaders don’t take immediate action to forestall the current spread and increase vaccine uptake, which has been lagging in parts of the continent due, in some cases, to anti-vaccine sentiment.
Is Delta the Last Covid ‘Super Variant’? Every week, a group of epidemiologists across the north-east of the United variants being reported around the world. “It’s like the weather report,” says William Hanage, an epidemiologist at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. “It used to be, ‘We have a little bit of Gamma there, we’ve got Alpha coming up here.’ But now it’s just Delta.” Since it was first detected in India in December 2020, the Delta variant of Sars-CoV-2 has become so ubiquitous that it would be easy to assume that the once-rapid evolution of the virus has been replaced by a state of quiescence. According to the World Health Organization, 99.5% of all Covid-19 genomic sequences reported to public databases are now Delta. While new strains have continued to emerge, such as the recent AY. 4.2 or the Delta Plus variant in the UK, which scientists estimate to be 10-15% more transmissible, although there is no exact data for this yet, they are almost identical to the Delta variant, apart from the odd minor mutation here and there. Hanage has taken to referring to them as Delta’s grandchildren.
