Are we facing World War III? From Washington to London, Kyiv to Tel Aviv – the war drums are banging ever louder, as the western imperialists and their henchmen look to prolong and escalate the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. We say: down with all the warmongers! Recent newspaper headlines have been dominated by the shock announcement that Russia would be “at war” with the United States and its allies if they lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range western missiles for the purpose of deep strikes on Russian territory. Suddenly, without any warning, the public is being made aware of a shocking fact: that the further continuation and escalation of the Ukrainian conflict confronts them with the threat of nuclear annihilation. For the overwhelming majority of people in the West, the news has come like a thunderbolt from a clear blue sky. Surely, things cannot be as bad as that? Why were we not told about this before? But for anyone who has seriously followed the unfolding of events, it comes as no surprise at all. Most people have quite short memories, and politicians appear to have no memories whatsoever of facts, when the facts do not suit them. Have we forgotten the fact that Russia is not just a very powerful state with a huge army, but also the world’s biggest nuclear power, equipped with long-range missiles capable of hitting any target on the planet?

On one of the most consequential nights in the 2024 presidential race, the fate of our entire planet received all of 120 seconds. Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump were each allotted one minute to discuss their plans for fighting the climate crisis during the September 10 presidential debate. Harris’s response to the question, which arrived in the final moments of the 90-minute event, did not put forward specific policy proposals to build upon the wins of the Inflation Reduction Act, such as laying out plans for how the U.S. would cut carbon emissions to meet Paris climate agreement targets. In fact, Harris several times praised the expansion of oil and gas development under President Joe Biden’s administration and doubled down on her promise not to ban fracking. Trump, on the other hand, gave a characteristically rambling response that neglected to answer the question at all, and, somehow, ended with him spouting a debunked claim about a Russian oligarch paying out Hunter Biden.

Eygi was sheltering from IDF provocations at a prayer session near the village of Beita in the West Bank, when she was shot in the head and killed. Eygi joins the countless other victims of the Zionist regime, Palestinians and their international supporters, in a decades-long project of ethnic cleansing – backed to the hilt by western imperialism. The killing of Eygi, a US citizen, further exposes the complicity of Biden and Harris in the ongoing genocide.

Photographs and video coming out of Gaza show dead children being carried in burial shrouds. For intance, Al Jazeera reports that an Israeli bombardment of the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City killed 3 people, and that a child and a woman are among the dead. Several others were injured. The Israelis dropped bombs on a residential neighborhood because they believed a member of the Hamas paramilitary, the al-Qassam Brigades, was present there. But International Humanitarian Law does not allow reckless disregard for the lives of civilians in military operations, which is what we see from the Israelis every day in Gaza.

Thousands of autoworkers protested in Brussels on Monday following recent news that Audi, a subsidiary of the German automaker Volkswagen, would phase out production at its plant there, which is expected to mean layoffs for its roughly 3,000 employees by the end of 2025. The phase-out announcement led to a labor dispute that’s shuttered the plant for the last two weeks, with some employees forming an encampment protest outside. The plant is expected to resume operations on Tuesday even though the core issues underlying the labor dispute, which some unions have characterized as a lockout by management, haven’t been resolved.

The Abortion Fight That Shows Just How Broken Our Healthcare System Is Since 1970, the Title X Family Planning Program has servedmillions of people in need of sexual and reproductive healthcare services who would not otherwise be able to access that care. But for all of those 54 years, one service has remained stubbornly outside the scope of Title X, even though it is fundamental to the concept of family planning: abortion care. Title X isolated abortion from other reproductive healthcare services rather than seeing all of these services—contraception, sexually transmitted disease testing, and abortion—as parts of a spectrum of care that the same patient will need in their lifetime. Whether Democrats or Republicans are in the White House, the restriction has been the same: Organizations are not able to use Title X funds for programs in which abortion is deemed a legitimate form of family planning.
