I mean, almost zero. But a majority of them know that they do not like the Islamic religion, at least in the post-Cold War period. Actually Islam and Muslims in general were quite popular with Americans in the 1950s and 1960s, when they were mainly fighting godless Communism and appreciated having allies. In all the Muslim world, only little South Yemen went Communist, whereas a lot of Christian-majority countries did. The Eisenhower administration hoped to build a Muslim bloc to oppose the Soviet Union and Ike funded better railway links with Mecca because he wanted to encourage Muslims to go on pilgrimage and be pious and reject dialectical materialism. That’s right, the US used to promote sharia law.

Dear Ministers, I am a Climate Crisis Campaigner: Nationalise Me Right Now Why have politicians outsourced the most important issue of our time to private agencies and individuals? We can’t do it all – this way lies disaster. There are several services and assets I would like to see nationalised. But at the top of my list is neither water, nor trains, nor development land, much as I’d like to see them brought under national or local public ownership. Above all, I want to see the nationalisation of my own business: environmental persuasion. I love my job. But I’m not very good at it. None of us is. We face the greatest predicament humankind has confronted: the erosion and possible collapse of our life-support systems. Its speed and scale have taken even scientists by surprise. The potential impacts are greater than any recent pandemic, or any war we have suffered. Yet the effort to persuade people of the need for action has been left almost entirely to either the private or voluntary sectors. And it simply does not work. Why? The first reason is that we are massively outgunned. For every pound or dollar spent on persuasion by an environmental charity or newspaper, the oil, chemicals, automotive, livestock and mining sectors will spend a thousand. They snap up the cleverest and most devious communicators to craft their messages, offering salaries no one else can afford. Among others, they pay a BBC in-house content studio to make their films. The BBC’s offer of “our century-long pedigree as the world’s most trusted storytellers” can be used to massage the reputations of the fossil fuel and pesticide companies it now works for.

Frome Past History of Pax American, One has to Assume That the United States was Involved!: Who Blew Up Nord Stream? … Then in early 2023, famed American journalist Seymor Hersch published a Substack post citing “unnamed sources” from the US security services, to accuse Washington of having masterminded the bombing of Nord Stream with the assistance of the Norwegian navy. The claims were immediately rubbished by the US, who accused Hersch of spreading “Russian disinformation.” Just over a year ago, separate reports appeared in the US and German press claiming that a “pro-Ukrainian group” led by a “Ukrainian commando” was responsible. These reports alleged that a six-person crew, acting independently of Zelensky’s government, operated from a 50-foot leisure yacht called Andromeda, leased from a Polish company. These reports conveniently spared Washington and Ukraine’s government from direct responsibility. But now, we have some results from the German probe, and fresh allegations in the US and German press squarely pointing the finger in Ukraine’s direction, this time implicating the highest levels of government and military command. Not only that, but the new reports suggest that the US knew about the plot.

On 29 July, after the announcement of the election results that declared President Nicolás Maduro victorious, a wave of protests broke out in the barrios and poor neighbourhoods of Caracas and many other cities across the country. Convinced that electoral fraud had taken place – given the facts surrounding the announcement, and especially the untimely official proclamation of the ‘winner’ a few hours later, without finalising the vote count, without audits or evidence of any kind – thousands took to the streets to express their rejection. The overwhelming popular protest was quelled by a brutally repressive response. From the afternoon of Monday 29 onwards, the government imposed its order. Squads of state security forces (police and parts of the Armed Forces, such as the National Guard) together with armed paramilitary groups, violently repressed the demonstrations. Their occupation of the gates to the neighbourhoods and innumerable house raids have completed the offensive.

But, from now on, the identity of the next Prime Minister is of little importance when it comes to analysing the political situation and its prospects. Whether he comes from the ‘centre-right’, the ‘centre-left’ or elsewhere will not change the fundamental thrust of their programme, which will mean austerity and, of course, racism. Remember that former Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne ‘came’ from the ‘left’, which did not prevent her from leading the latest offensive against our pensions, and then passing an immigration law dictated by Marine Le Pen.
Tinto Mine Rock Serbia! Recently, Serbia has once again been shaken by mass protests that brought tens of thousands to the streets. This is round two of the fight against Rio Tinto, a notorious multinational mining company that is trying to start operations in the west of the country. This is also the sixth time in the last eight years that mass protests against the regime of Aleksandar Vučić have been organised in Serbia. Two and a half years have passed since the masses in Serbia achieved their first victory against Rio Tinto. Protests against the company, further provoked by regime thugs, brought tens of thousands of people to the streets, where they set up roadblocks. Alarmed by the mass support for the protests, as well as by the growing militant mood of the demonstrators, who fought back against the thugs of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić decided to halt Rio Tinto’s ‘Jadar’ project, in order to prevent things getting out of control.

Nearly 60% of Baby Foods in the U.S. Don’t Meet Nutritional Guidelines, Study Says Nearly 60% of food products made for toddlers and babies did not meet nutrition standards set by the World Health Organization, according to a new study. Researchers tested 651 products in 2023, across eight food retailers in North Carolina, including Kroger, Walmart, Costco, Ahold Delhaize, Publix, Sam’s Club, Target and Aldi. Other samples were included from the websites of Safeway and H–B. Only about 30% of products complied with the agency’s protein recommendations, while 56% were compliant with sugar Eguidelines. About 93% of the products aligned with the fat recommendations, according to the study that was published in the Nutrients journal Wednesday.
