Majority of Likely Voters Support Higher Taxes for Billionaires, Poll Finds (But the tiny 1% Minority Own the Politicans!) As Congress considers a vast array of proposals to raise taxes on the rich, polling has found that proposals to tax billionaires are especially popular among likely voters from all parties. A November poll of about 1,300 people conducted by Data for Progress found that 67 percent of likely voters believe that billionaires should pay more in taxes, while only 22 percent believe that billionaires already pay enough. Democrats were most likely to say that they believed billionaires should pay more, with 79 percent saying as such. 70 percent of Independents and 53 percent of Republicans responded similarly.

Two Trials: Slave Patrol Racism in Georgia and Racist Neofascism in Kenosha The trial that exonerated the teen protester-killer, Kyle Rittenhouse, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the trial that convicted three white men of murdering the young Black man Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick, Georgia had some key similarities and some important differences. — Similarities — Both trials deliberated on events that included: murder by armed vigilantes claiming to have engaged in legitimate self-defense while claiming to protect private property not their own (used car dealerships in Kenosha and a house under construction in Brunswick); the use of guns against unarmed victims; efforts by victims to grab the killer’s gun; initial provocation by the killers. Both cases hinged largely on video evidence. Both were intimately related to the George Floyd Rebellion (see below). Both involved vicious white gun assaults on a young Black man – Arbery in Georgia and Kenosha’s Jacob Blake, whose brutal shooting by a white police officer at the end of the George Floyd summer sparked anti-racist civil rights protests that brought the teen Trump fan Rittenhouse from Illinois to the streets of Kenosha with a safety-off AR-15 fully loaded with 30 full metal jacket bullets on the night of August 25, 2020.

The move followed weeks of White House negotiations with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, as well as shippers like UPS and FedEx, and major retailers like Walmart and Target. The purpose of expanding port hours, according to the New York Times, was “to relieve growing backlogs in the global supply chains that deliver critical goods to the United States.”
Night Shift is Carcinogenic!: Hidden Hazards Of Night Shift Work And Gender On Career Health And Advancement Many workers have jobs that require them to work night shifts, but they don’t realize how late shifts can affect their mental and physical health. And women in professional roles may not realize how work stress impacts them differently from men. New studies reveal surprising findings into the hidden risks of both gender and time of day to the mind and body in the workplace. Studies show that the disruption of the circadian rhythm cycle—the natural, internal process that regulates the sleep/wake cycle and repeats roughly every 24 hours—can be a risk factor for obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. The underlying causes have not been clear until recently. In a controlled laboratory study, scientists at Washington State University and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory examined the white blood cells of participants in a simulated day or night shift at three-hour intervals. The simulated night shift schedule altered the normal circadian rhythm of genes, causing internal clock confusion. The researchers found elevated DNA damage and higher cancer risk among night shift workers but not day shift workers. These latest findings support the prevalence of cancer among night shift workers, which led the World Health Organization to classify night shift work as a carcinogenic hazard to humans.

Then he proceeded to deliver a pep talk devoid of hard evidence for the rosy promises he was making about his strategy for fighting the new Omicron variant.At one point, Biden told reporters that this Thursday he would be “putting forth a detailed strategy on how we’re going to fight COVID this winter – not with shutdowns or lockdowns, but with more widespread vaccinations, boosters and testing and more.” At this point, there is zero hard evidence that the current vaccines provide significant immunity against the Omicron variant. Scientists around the world have said that it will take two to three weeks to determine existing vaccine effectiveness against the new variant.
