Quotes of the Day:
Part three is not scheduled to be released before next March, but a small group of scientists decided to leak the draft via the Spanish branch of Scientist Rebellion, an offshoot of the Extinction Rebellion movement. It was first published by the journalist Juan Bordera in the Spanish online magazine CTXT. Bordera told the Guardian that the leak reflected the concern of some of those involved in drawing up the document that their conclusions could be watered down before publication in 2022. Governments have the right to make changes to the “summary for policymakers”. The top 10% of emitters globally, who are the wealthiest 10%, contribute between 36 and 45% of emissions, which is 10 times as much as the poorest 10%, who are responsible for only about three to 5%, the report finds. “The consumption patterns of higher income consumers are associated with large carbon footprints. Top emitters dominate emissions in key sectors, for example the top 1% account for 50% of emissions from aviation,” the summary says. — Greenhouse Gas Emissions Must Peak Within 4 Years, Says Leaked UN Report
Pointing to the work of the grassroots movement “All of Us or None,” Conway tells Scheer the key to eliminating the prison industrial complex is to “take away that exploited labor [and] that excess profit” made by both states and companies. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to eradicate the 13th Amendment’s “exception clause” in federal and state constitutions, as organizers are actively working towards in more than a dozen states. — Eddie Conway: Prisons Enable America’s Obscene Wealth

United States:
The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through. their ownership of the Reublicrats, who profit from war and the war budget, voted for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War! Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich. Tax the Rich! — They Can Afford To Pay!

Environment:
We are scientists, calling for a climate revolution The climate and ecological crises threaten every aspect of human civilisation. Despite decades of warnings from scientists and others, greenhouse gas emissions and temperatures continue to soar. A domino effect of climate tipping points threatens to push the Earth into a state that is alien and inhospitable to human civilisation. Still, mega-corporations ransack the natural world with support from their servants in public office. Governments who stray from protecting corporate interest in favour of human need are attacked and delegitimised in the billionaire press, face the prospect of international capital flight, and of political or military coups. This corruption of democracy sits at the heart of climate inaction. Billions are threatened with starvation, displacement, drought and inundation within the next few decades. Scientists know business as usual cannot continue: it’s time to put our bodies where our mouths are and resist, for truth and life.July Was World’s Hottest Month Ever Recorded, US Scientists Confirm Global land and ocean surface temperature last month was 0.9C hotter than 20th-century average, beating July 2016 record The global land and ocean surface temperature last month was one degree Celsius, 0.9C (1.6F), hotter than the 20th-century average of 15.8C (60.4F), making it the hottest month since modern record keeping began 142 years ago.

Profiting from the Global Pandemic: Global Billionaire Pandemic Wealth Surges to $5.5 Trillion The world’s billionaires have seen their wealth surge by over $5.5 trillion since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, a gain of over 68 percent. The world’s 2,690 global billionaires saw their combined wealth rise from $8 trillion on March 20, 2020 to $13.5 trillion as of July 31, 2021, drawing on data from Forbes.\
Greed and Consumption: Why the World Is Burning Global warming is, in large part, the outcome of a destructive pattern instigated and sustained by capitalism. The latter can only survive through unhindered consumption, inequality, greed and, when necessary, war. If we continue to talk about global warming without confronting the capitalist menace that generated much of the crisis in the first place, the conversation will continue to amount to nil.

ACLU Sues DC, Cops Over Attacks on Journalists at 2020 Racial Justice Protests ” The fact that MPD attacked, arrested me, and then held my camera for nearly a year for no reason sends a chilling message to everyone of what is at risk,” one of the plaintiffs in the suit warned. Noting that Washington, D.C. police violently attacked reporters whose job was covering officer brutality during last summer’s racial justice protests, the ACLU on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the District of Columbia and Metropolitan Police on behalf of two photojournalists who were accosted with “less-lethal” weapons during the demonstrations.
Eddie Conway: Prisons Enable America’s Obscene Wealth On this week’s “Scheer Intelligence,” prisoner-turned-journalist Eddie Conway talks about how the immorally cheap labor of those caught in the prison industrial complex is the shame of the U.S.
Racism and the Police: No Solution Under Capitalism A new parliamentary investigation into racist policing finds that the situation facing black communities is worse today than at the time of the Macpherson report, 22 years ago. To end police violence and racism, we must end capitalism. The aim of this parliamentary report was to examine the state of policing in Britain; and in particular, to assess what changes – if any – have been implemented in the wake of the death of Stephen Lawrence, and the subsequent inquiry into the police investigation of his murder. The 1999 Macpherson report established that there was ‘institutional racism’ within the police force. Over two decades later, according to this recent Home Affairs Committee report, there has been little progress on this front. In fact, things have gone backwards.

A Day in the Death of British Justice I sat in Court 4 in the Royal Courts of Justice in London yesterday with Stella Moris, Julian Assange’s partner. I have known Stella for as long as I have known Julian. She, too, is a voice of freedom, coming from a family that fought the fascism of Apartheid. Today, her name was uttered in court by a barrister and a judge, forgettable people were it not for the power of their endowed privilege. The barrister, Clair Dobbin, is in the pay of the regime in Washington, first Trump’s then Biden’s. She is America’s hired gun, or “silk”, as she would prefer. Her target is Julian Assange, who has committed no crime and has performed an historic public service by exposing the criminal actions and secrets on which governments, especially those claiming to be democracies, base their authority.
Afghanistan: Kabul Surrounded As Taliban Surge Taliban forces are seizing swathes of territory in a countrywide offensive, as US troops withdraw from Afghanistan. It has been predicted that the puppet regime in Kabul, installed by US imperialism and its allies, could fall within a month. Meanwhile, the people of Afghanistan face the imminent prospect of renewed Taliban rule, plunging them back into the nightmare of obscurantist black reaction. The operation spearheaded by US imperialism and its NATO allies 20 years ago is going down to utter defeat, just as we predicted from the outset. Shortly after the fall of Kabul in 2001, Alan Woods wrote the following: “[T]he Taliban, although wounded, has not been destroyed, and can make a comeback later on, as disillusionment with the new government in Kabul sets in – as it inevitably will.”
The Ground is Beginning to Shake It is now 10 years since riots swept across Britain in the wake of the police murder of Mark Duggan. A decade on, all the conditions are being prepared for a new wave of social unrest. The young generation are drawing revolutionary conclusions. The King of Prussia once said that “once our bayonets begin to think, we are lost”. The same could be said of the establishment in regards to the youth. At the present time, in the midst of this crisis, the ruling class can feel the ground beginning to shake under their feet. There is a growing disquiet in society, especially among the youth. Long gone is any sense of optimism about the future. The current period is like that before the storm, when the air becomes dense, and difficult to breathe.
Education, Health, Science, and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be, a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People Vote on Healthcare!
‘Unconscionable’: WHO Chief Slams Rich Nations Over Boosters as Poor Are Denied Vaccines “To date, 10 countries have administered more than 75% of the world’s vaccines, while low-income countries have received just over 1%.” The head of the World Health Organization on Thursday slammed rich nations for rolling out booster shots for certain segments of their populations as billions of people across the globe—particularly in poor countries—have yet to receive a single dose of the coronavirus vaccine amid the Delta surge.
