The Arrogance of the 1%’s Government!: Most Millionaires Get Average Tax Cut of $16K a Year With SALT Cap Increase Anew analysis shows that conservative Democrats’ tax reform plan will give a large tax cut to a majority of the country’s millionaires — despite the conservatives’ insistence that the reconciliation bill cost the government as little revenue as possible. The analysis from the Tax Policy Center shows that about two-thirds of people making over $1 million a year would get a net tax cut from the reconciliation plan, with an average of about $16,800 in cuts. Just under 80 percent of people making between $500,000 and $1 million a year, meanwhile, will see a tax cut of around $8,500 per year.

A Group of Seattle Moms Had Their Breast Milk Tested, And All of Them Had ‘Concerning’ Levels of Toxic ‘Forever Chemicals’ PFAS — human-made, potentially toxic “forever chemicals” — have been found in cosmetics, drinking water, and firefighting foam. They can also get into breast milk. A recent study detected significant levels of the chemicals in breast milk from 50 new mothers living in the Seattle area. The samples tested had PFAS levels that wouldn’t be safe for drinking water, and the study authors said the findings were “cause for concern.”

The SGS M-3 Continuation estimates current M-3 based on ongoing Fed reporting of M-3’s largest components (M-2, institutional money funds and partial large time deposits) and proprietary modeling of the balance. In February 2021, the Fed redefined its narrowest M-1 Money Supply measure back to May 2020, to incorporate the bulk of Non M-1 M-2, with headline M-1 now covering 93% of total M-2, instead of the prior 28%. A Second Female Lawyer Who Worked at JPMorgan Chase Says Fraud Is Condoned at the Bank The previous time a female lawyer who worked at JPMorgan Chase blew the whistle on frauds occurring inside the bank, the U.S. Department of Justice, along with other federal and state regulators, ended up charging the bank with selling toxic mortgage securities to investors and making JPMorgan Chase pay $13 billion to settle the charges. That female lawyer was Alayne Fleischmann, as Matt Taibbi detailed in a report for Rolling Stone in 2014. According to Fleischmann, who worked as a Transaction Manager at JPMorgan, her department was assigned with assuring that only good mortgage loans were securitized but, instead, under pressure from bosses, it waived in improperly underwritten mortgages that were likely to default. After failing to stop the fraudulent process with verbal warnings, Fleishmann memorialized the details in a long letter to a superior. She found herself dismissed in a round of layoffs.

Moderna’s Forbes 400 billionaire quartet owes its current good fortune completely to the company’s Covid-19 vaccine. And who made that vaccine possible? U.S. taxpayers. How Hospitals Became Vaults That Hid Evidence of Covid-19’s Toll United Memorial Medical Center is a small hospital in a working class part of Houston, with just over 100 beds and 40 doctors. Most of its patients lack health insurance, and a wrecking company is located opposite its main building, which has the look of a brutal mall from the 1970s. Yet nearly every major U.S. news outlet — the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, NBC, CBS, and others — published stories or photos about United Memorial in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the pandemic’s iconic pictures shows the hospital’s then-chief of staff, Dr. Joseph Varon, embracing an older patient. No other hospital came close to getting as much coverage in the early phase of the pandemic. The reason is simple: Unlike virtually every other hospital in the country, United Memorial was opening its doors to journalists trying to document the suffering on the front lines of the pandemic. The photographer who shot the picture of Varon visited the hospital more than 20 times. Because journalists were being turned away elsewhere, they flocked to United Memorial.
