Pax Americana and The Failure of ‘Lesser Evilism’ Just before the 2000 Presidential Election, in September 2000, George Bush’s think tank, The Project for the New American Century, put into writing a document titled Rebuilding America’s Defenses, Forces and Resources For a New Century. In that document they called for war upon Iraq, a US military presence in the middle east, and the construction of military bases throughout Asia and the world to enforce, what they termed, as a ‘strategic goal’, the preservation Pax Americana — the ‘new world order’ that was proclaimed after the first Gulf War. There has been no objection or opposition, from the Democratic Party, to this ‘strategic goal’ for this century, even though the document stated, two years prior to 9/11: A transformation strategy that solely pursued capabilities for projecting force from the United States, for example, and sacrificed forward basing and presence, would be at odds with larger American policy goals and would trouble American allies. Chicago Teachers Union (CtU) Safety Checklist Please Note, this checklist will be periodically updated based on the latest scientific and health information available as well as reports of best practices that reflect member experience. This is the second version of this checklist.
Introduction
CPS has refused to bargain with CTU over its unilateral decision to resume in-person instruction during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The CTU and CPS have no agreement on the conditions under which in-person instruction can safely resume, and the CTU believes that current public health conditions do not allow for a safe resumption of in-person learning. Under the law, employees have a right to refuse dangerous work assignments, and the CTU will support all members who exercise that right. We urge all members to sign this letter to Mayor Lightfoot and the Board of Education and talk to their co-workers about actions they can take to stand in solidarity: www.ctulocal1.org/safety.

Citadel Is Paying for Order Flow from Nine OnLine Brokerage Firms – Not Just Robinhood Since 2000, the Securities and Exchange Commission has required brokerage firms to file a quarterly report showing where they are routing their stock trades for execution. The filing is known as a 606 report after Rule 606 of Regulation NMS (National Market System). Because so many traders at Reddit’s WallStreetBets’ message board have focused on the fact that billionaire Ken Griffin’s Citadel Securities was executing the majority of trades for Robinhood, the trading app where a lot of the Redditors directed their GameStop trades, we decided to take a look at what other online brokers might have also been directing GameStop trades to Citadel Securities. According to the 606 reports for the fourth quarter of 2020 for the following nine online brokers, Citadel was providing payment-for-order-flow (giving a cash rebate for trade orders directed to it) to each of the following: Robinhood, E-Trade, TD Ameritrade, Charles Schwab, WeBull, Ally Invest Securities, First Trade and TradeStation. At Fidelity Brokerage Services, it was directing stock and option orders to Citadel Securities but was only receiving payment-for-order-flow on the option orders, according to its 606 report. The So-Called Moderna Vaccine Is a Publicly Funded Miracle The so-called “Moderna” vaccine is a miracle of science. It is nearly 100 percent effective at preventing serious illness and death. By vaccinating the world, we can end the COVID-19 pandemic and save millions of lives. The only problem? We don’t have nearly enough doses. But there’s a solution: If the Biden administration allowed generic manufacturers, not just Moderna, to manufacture the vaccine at scale, the United States would no longer suffer from a vaccine shortage. This step is entirely appropriate, because the “Moderna” vaccine wasn’t developed by Moderna. The research and development of the vaccine were paid for by our U.S. taxpayer dollars, to the tune of $2.5 billion.
