During This Economic Crisis, Capitalism’s Three-Point Political Program: 1.Austerity, 2.Scapegoat Blacks, Minorities, and ‘Illegal’ Immigrants for Unemployment, and 3.  The Iron Heel!  Always Remember:  That President Obama, With a Majority Democrat Legislature Supported the Wall Street Bailout and Remember, That he Established, in writing,  the United States Capitalist Austerity Program. —  The Race to the Bottom/Pauperization of the 99%!

Carlos Latuff: Black Lives Caught Between Two Threats!

Quotes of the Day:

The racist disparity of COVID-19, where the oppressed suffer the consequences qualitatively more than the general population, is but the flip side of the institutional racism that allows white racist police to murder unarmed Black women, men and children with impunity, while filling the prisons with millions more to work at Fortune 500 corporations in the increasingly privatized, for profit, fifty-cents-an-hour slave labor prison-industrial complex. The fires of mass discontent that now burn in Minneapolis, St. Paul and as we write, in Louisville, Kentucky, are but the initial sparks that may well ignite a working class fightback that opens the door wider than in nearly a century to the thinking of previously unknown thoughts. The great working class masses that hold the potential to bring this degenerate system to an end will have the final word in this matter. The stakes have never been higher. — The Plague of Racist Cop Murders: Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and the COVID-19 Pandemic

From Its Origins, The Main Role, of the Police in the United States Has Benn to Protect Private Property  the Subjugation of Black People: The Police Originated from the first slave patrols in 1704, which first got established in the South and lasted until 1861. Their original role was to catch runaway slaves. An important part of Black history is the destruction of Reconstruction, which lasted for a decade after the Civil War, and the establishment of Jim Crow in the South and racial segregation in the North. Reconstruction officially ended with the “Compromise of 1876.”— The Historic Role of Police Brutality in the Black Community and African American Oppression

It is notable that on February 15, 2000, the prison population of the United States reached 2,000,000. The United States, with merely 5 percent of the world’s population, now has 25 percent of its prison population, consisting primarily of Blacks and other oppressed minorities.  At the same time, this country’s rulers are systematically destroying affirmative action and deinstitutionalizing unequal opportunity for the Black masses. Police violence is necessary to this process of resubjugation of the Black community.  In order to stop this process, it is necessary to drop support to the two capitalist parties and to return to the mass action strategy of the civil rights movement in opposition to the government. Such a strategy could lead to Black control of the Black community and the end of the police state in that community. March 2000 ‚ — Diallo Verdict Gives Police a License for ‘Legal Lynchings’

Although the Confederates were not tried and convicted of that crime, treason certainly describes their behavior. The Constitution says that “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them.” That is exactly what the Confederates did. They were U.S. citizens who took up arms against their government. These were individuals who killed American soldiers. They sought to destroy the United States, as it stood, through violence. — The Confederate Flag Isn’t Just Offensive. It’s Treasonous

United States:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich.

‘If You Want to End Unrest, End the Conditions That Create It,’ Declares Ocasio-Cortez Amid Nationwide Protest Instead of calls for things to simply calm down and “go back to normal,” said New York Congresswoman, “let’s create a new world—one where all people are held to the same standard of the rule of law.” By Jon QueallyDrone Warfare Comes Home to Roost!:  US Border Patrol Denounced as ‘Rogue Agency’ for Using Predator Drone to Spy on Minneapolis Protests “This is what happens when leaders sign blank check after blank check to militarize police, CBP, etc while letting violence go unchecked.” “This rogue agency’s use of military technology to surveil protesters inside U.S. borders is deeply disturbing, especially given CBP’s lack of clear and strong policies to protect privacy and constitutional rights.” —ACLU  By Eoin Higgins

Forget “Looting.” Capitalism Is the Real Robbery This morning the president of the United States threatened state-sanctioned murder in response to “looting,” laying bare the way in which white supremacy, capitalism and the state work together to violently repress people who defend Black life.  But Trump’s angry outburst is not the only blatantly racist response we should be interrogating. We also must confront the way in which both conservatives and liberals have responded to the Minneapolis uprisings by condemning “looting.”  Protesters in Minneapolis and around the country are rising up against a lynching and other forms of state violence. How should we respond to a lynching? Should our goal simply be to publicize it, in the hope that such publicity will generate condemnation and prevent future lynchings? This logic is flawed, in part, because lynchings thrive off of spectatorship. For white supremacists, the act of killing is also an act of fellowship and opportunity for indoctrination. By William C. Anderson

Peolosi Does What the 1% Wants!: Captialism is Hostile To The Bill of Rivhts:Pelosi Accused of ‘Trying to Do an End-Run Around Her Own Party’ by Sending Spy Powers Bill to Conference “Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Schiff have done everything in their power to ensure the House cannot vote on the warrantless surveillance of Americans’ internet activity.” By Jessica Corbett

Dozens of Companies That Received Multimillion-Dollar Coronavirus Bailouts Paid No Taxes Last Year Of the almost 110 recipients of $4 million or more, Reuters found some 46 paid no U.S. corporate tax for the last year. There are many reasons for this, not all to do with tax avoidance. By Tom Bergin and Lawrence Delevingne

  • A Reuters analysis of public data found around 110 publicly traded companies have each received $4 million or more in emergency aid from the program.
  • The Trump Administration pledged in April to reviewall PPP loans more than $2 million, yet there were no stipulations for taxes as part of the application.

Ahmaud Arbery: “Jogging While Black”: The Plague of Racist Cop Murders: Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and the COVID-19 Pandemic Black Georgia jogger, 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, was murdered in cold blood by three white racists on February 23. Arbery’s family attorneys, led by Benjamin Crump, have charged that his murder was premeditated. Local police, on the scene soon after the murder, accepted the testimony of the killers. They were considered “witnesses,” not suspects. One, a former cop and police investigator, Gregory McMichael, who had worked under the jurisdiction of the first two District Attorneys assigned to the case, was immediately released along with his son, Travis. The DAs concluded that Arbery’s murder was fully justified under Georgia law. Under pressure some two months later, when evidence to the contrary emerged, they recused themselves from further deliberations on the case. By Jeff Mackler

Never Seen Anything Like This’: Watch Police Arrest CNN Journalist and Camera Crew During Live Protest Coverage “They arrested a CNN reporter and camera crew for reporting the news but not Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd on camera.” A CNN journalist and his entire camera crew were arrested by Minnesota state police Friday morning during their live television coverage of the aftermath of Minneapolis protests over the killing of George Floyd.  By Jake Johnson

Without Anger Over Inequality and Lynchings, We Have No Hope for Democracy The anger that has erupted in Minneapolis and across the country in response to the brutal killing of George Floyd gives me hope. This anger — whether expressed peacefully or violently — is ignited by a betrayal of human equality. Without this anger, we have no hope for maintaining a democracy in the United States. By Nicholas Powers

Protest, Uprisings, and Race War The moralizing has begun. Those who have rarely been the target of organized police gangsterism are once again lecturing those who have about how best to respond to it. Be peaceful, they implore, as protesters rise up in Minneapolis and across the country in response to the killing of George Floyd. This, coming from the same people who melted down when Colin Kaepernick took a knee — a decidedly peaceful type of protest. Because apparently, when white folks say, “protest peacefully,” we mean “stop protesting.” By Tim Wise

After Years, of Bipatrisan Austerity, OSHA Funding Cuts Has Eliminated Most of OSHAS’s Power To Protect Workers!: Elizabeth Warren Leads Demand to Audit OSHA as Covid-19 Sparks ‘Massive Worker Safety Crisis’ Elizabeth Warren Leads Demand to Audit OSHA as Covid-19 Sparks ‘Massive Worker Safety Crisis’ “OSHA’s failure to take stronger actions will result in more workers being made sick and killed by this virus.” By Jake Johnson

Sanitation Workers Striking For PPE And Pay Replaced By Prison Labor Dr. Talitha LeFlouria talks with TRNN about the New Orleans sanitation strike where workers were fired and replaced by prison labor from nearby Livingston Parish, and the historical roots of the exploitation of prison labor.

Over 62,300 US health workers infected and 291 dead from COVID-19 According to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 62,334 health care workers in the United States have been infected with COVID-19 and at least 291 have died. Just six weeks ago, on April 17, the CDC said infections among health care workers totaled 9,282, with 27 fatalities. The CDC admits that these numbers are likely an underestimation because only 21 percent of those who are infected identify their profession. By Katy Kinner

 Economy:

U.S. Debt Crisis Comes into View as Fed’s Balance Sheet Explodes Past $7 Trillion On May 29, 2019, the Federal Reserve’s balance sheet stood at $3.9 trillion. As of this past Wednesday, May 27, 2020, the Fed’s balance sheet had skyrocketed to $7.145 trillion, an increase of 83 percent in one year’s time.  But the explosion in the Fed’s balance sheet cannot be attributed solely to the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The math and the timeline simply do not support that argument. According to the timeline at the World Health Organization, on December 31, 2019, China first reported a cluster of cases of pneumonia which were identified in early January to be the coronavirus now known as COVID-19. These were the first known cases anywhere in the world. By Pam Martens and Russ Martens

What’s NATO Up to These Days? Provoking Russia, Draining Healthcare Budgets and Protecting Its Own from COVID In November 2019, as experts warned that a novel coronavirus was likely to develop in the near-future, NATO boasted that its European Allies, including the UK, as well as Canada, were boosting their military budgets by an average of 4.6 percent, or an additional $130bn since 2016. The implication is that this increase in military spending is at the expense of healthcare, which is being privatized worldwide. By T.J. Coles

Health, Science, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘governn’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare
