The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Republicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! 9-11 World Trade Center Dust Cloud: How Many Will Die! The “dustification” and the implosion of the World Trade Center (WTC) towers sent clouds of carcinogenic dust across New York City. These towers were built in the late 1970s and asbestos was one of many carcinogenic materials that were used in their construction. Everyone familiar with construction and the carcinogens that are contained in high rise structures, immediately knew that there was a grave risk for all who were downwind from the dust cloud which was formed from the burning and crumbling of the building.  Despite the obvious, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Christie Whitman said a week after the attacks: “I am glad to reassure the people of New York … that their air is safe to breathe and their water is safe to drink.”   In the Friday, January 11, 2002 issue of the San Francisco Chronicle, there was a reprint of a Washington Post article titled “The Residents Near Ground Zero Worry About Toxic Debris,” which explains the initial effects of the dust cloud upon those who live downwind from the WTC towers.  The article, in explaining some of the after effects of the dust cloud, stated: “… those who live or work downtown report strikingly similar symptoms: nosebleeds, sore throats, bronchial infections and an endless hacking cough , , , , About one-fourth of the city’s firefighters have complained of severe coughing after working at ground zero, and more than a thousand have filed notices of claims against the city.” By Roland Sheppard

US Media Keep Saying Iran is ‘In Violation’ of a Nuclear Agreement the US Withdrew From Yes, Iran is increasing the number of centrifuges it is using to refine nuclear fuel, and yes, it is refining that fuel to a higher percentage of U-235, the isotope that allows the uranium to begin a chain reaction necessary for both fueling a nuclear reactor and for creating an atomic bomb. But in taking these steps, Iran is not, and indeed cannot be “in violation” of the agreement on its nuclear program that was negotiated by the Obama administration and the Iranian government in 2015, with the backing of 5 other nations (France, the UK, China, Russia and Germany). Consultants Are Biggest Winners in Latest Political Fundraising Scheme Joint fundraising committees are growing increasingly common as candidates and parties seek out big checks from wealthy donors. But while millions of dollars might flow into these committees on a single night, some of them fail to pass along much of this money to the campaigns for which they are supposedly fundraising. Environment:

The real fire devouring the Amazon, Chiquitanía and Gran Chaco is Capitalism From space, in various satellite images, you can see columns of smoke and suspended particles ascending above the most extensive and biologically diverse tropical forest in the world: the Amazon. Field photographs of ocelots, peccaries, armadillos and various species being incinerated have gone viral, horrifying civil society and inspiring groups of young protestors and environmentalists around the globe to take action. In a landscape recently turned into a savanna as a result of the deforestation of the jungle, a column of thick, black smoke provoked a desperate escape attempt by a mountain fox – a South American canine of the tropical and subtropical forest – though he perhaps had nowhere to run. To Critics Who Say Climate Action Is ‘Too Expensive,’ Greta Thunberg Responds: ‘If We Can Save the Banks, We Can Save the World’ “If there is something we are not lacking in this world, it’s money. • Slavery is Model for US Prison Book-Banning Although First Amendment guarantees of freedom of expression apply to prisoners, the “catch is that these rights can be restricted in the interest of security,” said Professor Brittany Friedman, a sociologist at Rutgers University. Slavery sought to perfect the imprisoning of both mind and body, said Friedman, and is a model for pervasive book banning in US prisons.
  • FBI Terror “Watch List” is Unconstitutional “The US has always had a watchlist,” said BAR executive editor Glen Ford, following a federal judge’s ruling that the FBI’s anti-terror Watch List is unconstitutional. But the United States is always in search of “enemies” to surveil and repress, said Ford. “At one time it included every slave that wanted to be free and every Native American that insisted this land still belonged to his people.
  • Green Party Gears Up for Eco-Socialism Conference Anita Rios, national co-chair of the Green Party, says the Democrat’s version of the Green New Deal is mostly “rhetoric,” while her party’s “eco-socialist agenda is the only path that is truly inclusive of all the various populations in this country” and the world. The Green Party’s national conference on eco-socialism is set for September 28, in Chicago.
  • The “Great Contradiction” of US Incarceration  Donte Mitchell, a longtime prisoner of the State of New York, finds essential truths in the poem, “The Great Contradiction,” as it applies to the two million prisoners in US. “We want them to be a part of our community, so we isolate them from our community; we want them to have self-worth, so we destroy their self-worth….”
  • Jay-Z Seeks to Profit from the War Machine Jay-Z isn’t just trying to make another billion bucks by undermining Colin Kaepernick and the “take a knee” movement, said Louis Jefferson, funder of the San-Jose, California-based African Liberation Lab for Revolutionary Qulture. The rapper is jockeying to join football league owners in glorifying the flag and luring volunteers into the US war machine. “A lot of that is being marketed through the NFL” and “through commercials that promote the military,” said Jefferson.

Citigroup Says Gold Could Go to $2,000; Is It Talking Its Book?Citigroup released an analyst’s note yesterday stating that “We expect spot gold prices to trade stronger for longer, possibly breaching $2,000 an ounce and posting new cyclical highs at some point in the next year or two.” Gold was last on a record-breaking streak in 2011 when it shot through handles of $1500, $1600, $1700 and $1800 from April through August of that year. On an intraday trading basis, gold reached a high of $1,917.90 an ounce on August 23, 2011 and another intraday high of $1923.70 on September 6, 2011.Gold then spent the next five years trading back down to the $1100 range. As the chart above indicates, gold has been moving decidedly higher this year, up 16.9 percent from January 2, 2019 to yesterday’s close. At 9:16 this morning, gold was trading at $1,504.40 an ounce. Is Corporate Media Tricking the Public with Reports that the Stock Market Is Setting New Highs? On January 26, 2018 the Dow Jones Industrial Average set a new record high of 26,616.71. Despite setting new highs multiple times thereafter, the moves were so negligible on a percentage basis that the reality is that the stock market has been a real dog over the past year and a half. This past Friday, the Dow closed at 26,797.46. That’s a meager 180.75 points, or less than a one percent move, in 19 months. That’s not exactly the stuff that retirement dreams are built on. The US, Pax Ameriana, Invasion, Led by Obama, Did Not Bring Democracy to Algeria   Just Destryction!:Gaddafi vs the West: Two Revolutions on the Wrong Side of History Sunday marked half a century since Muammar Gaddafi’s Libyan revolution, which led to the overthrow of the American-backed King Irdis. In Libya’s 1969 revolution, Muammar Gaddafi inherited one of the poorest nations in Africa; however, by the time he was assassinated, Gaddafi’s socialism had turned Libya into Africa’s wealthiest nation. Libya had the highest GDP per capita and life expectancy on the continent.  The Western-backed counter revolution of 2011 has resulted in Libya becoming a failed state and its economy is in shambles. President Obama said that his worst mistake as President of the United States was Libya; and “failing to plan for the day after” toppling Gaddafi. By Garikai Chengu

Puerto Rican Fight Lives On in People’s Assemblies Locally and in Diaspora Mainstream media outlets in the U.S. have turned their attention away from Puerto Rico since the massive popular protests that forced former Gov. Ricardo “Ricky” Rosselló to leave office in early August. However, the energy behind the political uprising hasn’t faded away. Instead, that energy continues to grow and is now being channeled into asambleas de pueblo — people’s assemblies — a new form of political engagement that is drawing Puerto Ricans from across the political spectrum, and throughout the archipelago and diaspora, into a movement that has the potential to transform Puerto Rican society and politics in the long term, far beyond deposing any particular politician. Netanyahu’s Miscalculations About Iran Will Cost Him Dearly The Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu is one of the world players who pushed Trump to breach the 2015 treaty with Iran. Trump then slapped the severest economic sanctions on Iran ever imposed on any country in the absence of war. Trump went around the world menacing other countries into ceasing to buy Iranian petroleum and threatening billions in fines against any company anywhere in the world that invested in or traded with Iran. This economic and financial blockade was supposed to bring Iran to its knees, push it out of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and perhaps (it was hoped by some in Trump’s circles) even pave the way to the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran in favor of the Marxist-Islamic People’s Jihadis (Mohahedin-e Khalq or MEK, which is alleged to have ties to Israeli intelligence). Instead, Netanyahu and Trump have pushed Iran straight into the arms of China which is investing $400 billion in the country and which is now taking most of Iran’s oil exports. China seems intent on integrating Iran into its economy even more robustly than it had proposed with Pakistan. By Juan Cole

Health, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘govern’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers the to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let The People Vote on Healthcare

The Capitalists Are Afraid   Capitalists seek to maximize profits and reduce the cost of labor. This sums up capitalism at its core. It is defined by these immutable objectives. It is not about democracy. It is not, as has been claimed, about wealth creation for the working class. It has nothing to do with freedom. Those capitalists, especially in corporations, who are not able to increase profits and decrease the cost of labor, through layoffs, cutting wages, destroying unions, offshoring, outsourcing or automating jobs, are replaced. Personal ethics are irrelevant. Capitalists are about acquisition and exploitation. Capitalists go to absurd lengths to lie about capitalism’s true nature. It is why Business Roundtable’s most recent version of its Principles of Corporate Governance, signed by 181 major CEOs—including the heads of Amazon, General Motors and Chevron, all three of which paid no federal income tax in 2018—rivals the doublespeak of the worst totalitarian regimes of the 20th century.  By Chris Hedges

Government-Granted Patent Monopolies Are Driving Up Drug Prices Most of the leading Democratic presidential contenders have put forward a plan to reduce drug prices. But for some reason, none of them have embraced the simple idea of not making drugs expensive in the first place. Specifically, none of the contenders have proposed moving away from the current system of financing the research and development of new drugs through government-granted patent monopolies.
