Since World War I ‘the war to end all wars’ there have been perpetual wars for perpetual peace, Laura Gray’s cartoon from the front page of The Militant August 18, 1945, under banner headline: “There Is No Peace,” Could Still Be Published Today!

During This Economic Crisis, Capitalism’s Three Point Political Program: Austerity, Scapegoat Blacks, Minorities, and ‘Illegal’ Immigrants for Unemployment, and  The Iron Heel.

Democracy?:  As the Capitalist Robber Barons Steal from the 99%: Only the 1% Voted For Austerity — The 99% Should Decide On Austerity — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From Austerity!  Under Austerity, All of the World Will Eventually Be Pauperized, Humbled, and Desecrated Like Greece and Puerto Rico.

A report by the U.N. special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights finds 40 million people in the United States live in poverty, 18.5 million live in extreme poverty and more than 5 million live in conditions of absolute poverty.   Special Rapporteur Philip Alston called the United States the most unequal society in the developed world. He said U.S. policies benefit the rich and exacerbate the plight of the poor. —UN: 40M in US Live in Poverty

U.S.:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Republicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace.— The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace!

It ‘Was Sport’ to Dodge Taxes, Admits Trump, After NYT Details Epic Business Failures“As these records make clear, Trump was perhaps the worst businessman in the world. His entire campaign was a lie.”  In response to a bombshell New York Times report detailing that President Donald Trump posted higher losses on his tax filings during certain years in the 1980s and 90s than perhaps “any other individual” in the country—more than a $1 billion over a decade—the president himself confirmed Wednesday morning that what he was really up to at the time was creating a massive “tax shelter“—something he said “was sport” that wealthy developers like him played with their tax returns and financial dealings.  The Silence of the 2020 Democratic Hopefuls on Gaza Is DeafeningIsrael reached a ceasefire with Hamas this week after several days of bombings in the Gaza Strip left four Israelis and 25 Palestinians dead, including two pregnant women and a one-year-old child. Yet as of this writing, just three Democratic candidates for president have elected to weigh in on the violence—two of them in defense of Israel, according to Haaretz. Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, who is running an expressly anti-war campaign and whose social media is being managed by a group of teenage students, has offered the lone voice of support for Palestine. Next Trump will set up a profitable toll both, on the border, to collect entrance fees: Trump’s Fee for Asylum Seekers Could Send Many Back to Their Deaths Last week, Trump ordered his top officials to come up with a way, within 90 days, of charging asylum seekers for applying for asylum. Of all the cruel anti-immigrant measures that this sadistic regime has come up with since January 2017, this one ranks right up there with family separation and child imprisonment.  By Sasha Abramsky

Tipping Point: For 1st Time in US History, Renewables made more Electricity than Coal in AprilAnn Arbor (Informed Comment) – Avery Thompson Popular Mechanics reportsthat in the month of April for the first time in US history, the country produced more electricity with renewables than with coal. Part of the solution to this puzzle is economic. In much of the US, Thompson notes, you could actually make more money building and running a wind farm than you could just keeping an existing coal plan open. By Juan Cole

Freedom Rider: Facebook and the Farrakhan DistractionIn banning the only living person who can summon a million Black people to a meeting, Facebook is doing the bidding of the real fascists in the deep imperial state. “Farrakhan won’t be the last victim.” Facebook and other social media platforms are an indispensable means of communicating with people all over the world. They are vital tools for anyone wanting to share or receive information. That is why their surrender to the dictates of the state is so very dangerous. By Margaret Kimberly,  Bar Editor and Senior ColumnistAssange Is Not a Journalist (If Journalists Are Ass-Kissing Propagandists for the Ruling Class)Saying Assange not a journalist is like saying Darwin wasn’t a biologist, Einstein wasn’t a physicist and LeBron James can’t play basketball. “Assange is a genius who looked at global injustice with the mind of a systems analyst, then founded Wikileaks and the transparency movement.” High profile journalists have been jabbering about whether or not Julian Assange is really one of them. If “journalist” is understood to mean “ass-kissing propagandist for the ruling class,” then he most certainly is not.  By Ann Garrison, Bar ContributerVenezuelan Embassy in DC Under Siege by Guaido’s Racist MobEmboldened by Trump’s aggressions against Venezuela, fascist followers of the treasonous Juan Guaido have threatened and assaulted US activists safeguarding the property in Washington.“Their taunts are misogynistic, homophobic and racist.” United States activists stand with President Maduro and the people of Venezuela in resistance to Washington’s attempts at regime change. Departing Venezuelan diplomats, ordered out of the country on April 15th by the Trump administration, gave the keys to its Washington DC embassy to activists, now called the Embassy Protection Collective (EPC), along with permission to remain until a permanent protectorate can be found. President Nicolas Maduro has extended his support to the lawful occupants which consist of veterans, senior citizens and students, and are members of CODEPINK Popular Resistance.org People’s Dispatch  and the ANSWER Coalition . Labor:

Figures don’t lie, But liars can ‘figure’:   ‘Big Attack on Working People’: Trump Moves to Redefine Poverty in Order to Slash Social Programs and Services for Millions“A novel way to take healthcare, etc., away from people AND make it look like there are fewer poor people.”  The Trump administration on Monday moved to change the definition of “poverty” in the United States in a proposal which combines the president’s attempts to portray the U.S. economy as strong with his repeated attacks on the working poor and their access to government services.  In a regulatory filing, President Donald Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) wrote that it may change how inflation is calculated in order to reduce the number of Americans who are living below the federally-recognized poverty line and are therefore eligible for certain government support services and social programs.By Julia Conle

War and Natural Gas: The Israeli Invasion and Gaza’s Offshore Gas FieldsWhat if Israel Let Gaza Have an Airport, Gas Field and Desalination Plant? Netanyahu hasn’t done anything for a decade to change the awful strategic balance that has emerged between us and Gaza What if we had done the reverse? Let’s say Israel had allowed the construction of a deepwater port for Gaza, the rebuilding of the Strip’s airport and even the building of a desalination plant so Gazans could have a reliable supply of drinking water. Judge Issues Scathing Rebuke of DOJ and Law Firm, Paul WeissIf you needed more proof that the United States is heading in the direction of a dystopian authoritarian state, it arrived last Thursday, May 2, when the Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York wrote a decision finding that the U.S. Justice Department had outsourced a criminal investigation to the target of the investigation – Deutsche Bank – and Deutsche Bank’s outside law firm, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. Making the matter all the more interesting, the Chief Judge who wrote the decision, Colleen McMahon, formerly worked for Paul Weiss for 19 years, rising to the rank of partner. She remains, according to this profile, close friends with a number of former and current Paul Weiss lawyers. By Pam Martens and Russ Martens

Health, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘govern’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers the to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let The People Vote on Healthcare!
