Quote of the Day:
Even at the height of the Cold War and the depths of McCarthyism, the U.S. corporate media was never even remotely as consumed with Russia as they are, today. The obsession with the Kremlin is a manufactured hysteria, a result of the panic that engulfed the U.S. ruling class — and its media — during last year’s election. What scared them witless, was the reaction of so-called “middle Americans” — white conservatives that call themselves Christian and “patriotic” – to Donald Trump’s statements on lessening tensions with Moscow and getting the U.S. out of the regime change business. Trump’s supporters didn’t bat an eye. It soon became clear that Trump’s base was nowhere near as gung-ho for endless war and confrontation as the rulers, and most of the rest of us, had assumed. And, that was very bad news for the War Party, which had gathered together in Hillary Clinton’s big tent. Because, if Donald Trump’s “middle Americans” — or “deplorables,” as Hillary called them — could not be counted on to applaud every war that their rulers chose to launch, then where was the reliable constituency for war? If not Trump’s people — who? The rulers — from the spy chiefs in Washington to the Lords of Capital on Wall Street — were terror-struck at the sudden realization that the national constituency for war was way short of a majority, and that the middle Americans they depended on to hate whoever they were instructed to hate might have other concerns than Russians and overthrowing Arab governments. The lack of war fever in middle America signaled an existential crisis for the ruling class, whose dreams of world conquest require never-ending war. —Manufactured Hysteria Over Russia Requires 24/7 Upkeep

U.S.:
Donald Trump is not blameless when white supremacists slaughter people Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric gives attacks like those in Portland legitimacy. When the president pours fuel on the fire, where does it stop? By Moustafa Bayoumi Military Spending is the Biggest Scam in American Politics Military spending is the biggest waste of federal taxdollars ever. Both political parties are equally complicit. The militarism scam is the best-kept secret in American politics. When you think about it — but no one in the halls of Congress ever does — it’s hard to think of a country that has less to fear than the United States. Two vast oceans eliminate our vulnerability to attack, except by countries with sophisticated long-range ballistic missiles (5 out of 206 nations). We share long borders with two nations that we count as close allies and trading partners. By Ted Rall The West is Spreading New Wave of Feel-Good Movies and False Hopes Watch blockbuster movies from the “south” and chances are you will start to believe that the world is not really such a desperate place. Perhaps you might even get convinced that under the present imperialist and turbo-capitalist global arrangement things can always get better. If you live in a gutter somewhere in Sub-Continent or Africa, you could simply try hard, you could “believe in yourself and love yourself”, you could “listen to your instincts”, and everything may eventually fall into the right places. You could get acknowledged, rewarded and even catapulted from your misery into some plush pastures that are covering the tall green hills of success. by Andre Vltchek Black Liberation/Civil Rights:
Manufactured Hysteria Over Russia Requires 24/7 Upkeep The ruling class and its media are most vengeful against Donald Trump, not based on issues of justice and equality, but because he showed that middle America was “nowhere near as gung-ho for endless war” as had been assumed. This triggered an existential crisis for the U.S. imperialism. If Trump’s people were not the war constituency, then who was? The hate-Russia machine roared into frenzied action. A Black Agenda Radio commentary by executive editor Glen Ford Freedom Rider: Obama vs. Trump President Barack Obama sold Saudi Arabia record amounts of weapons, joined its murderous war in Yemen, and interfered in European elections by supporting Angela Merkel in Germany. Yet the corporate media pretends that this continuity of U.S. imperial policy is, somehow, all Donald Trump’s idea. The rulers care only about the Empire. “The ICE raids, emboldened racism, voter suppression and cuts to government programs don’t concern them.” by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley 10 Examples of How US imperialism Continues to Kill the People and Planet The capitalist narrative, aggressively fronted by the Democratic Party in 2016, holds that “conditions in the U.S. were never better.” But all the objective facts say otherwise. “Imperialism’s contradictions have been pushed to their natural limit.” By every social, economic and moral measure, conditions of life are deteriorating for the masses of people, while the rich suck up the wealth of the world. by Danny HaiphongRwanda: Starvation in the Shadow of a Star
Paul Kagame, the dictator that presides over Rwanda’s minority government, is the darling of the U.S., the former colonial powers, and Israel. Bill Clinton claims “the economic and social gains in Rwanda have been nothing short of astonishing under Kagame.” So, it may surprise his sponsors that Uganda is in the grip of famine. Kagame also requires that candidates in the current election submit their media messages to the state for approval. by Ann Garrison How Privilege Politics Erases Radicals of Color Reformists claim they are protecting marginalized populations by supporting Democrats and avoiding real confrontation with Power. But Blacks have historically been in the vanguard of resistance in the U.S., and need no paternalistic “progressives” to do their strategizing for them. The river of resistance flows deep, from Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party to Ferguson. by Matthew Kovac Africa at the Crossroads: the Fate of the African Union History is not as far removed from the crises afflicting Africa today as many people seem to think. Imperialism has fought against the continent’s genuine independence and socialist development over the last five decades. As Nkrumah said, independence was only the prelude to a tougher struggle for the right of Africans to conduct their affairs according to their own aspirations. by Abayomi Azikiwe

Anadarko Execs Buy up Depressed Stock After Lethal Colorado Explosion Since the explosion, five members sitting on either Anadarko’s board of directors or executive officer team have purchased a combined $2.6 million worth of company stock, totaling over 46,700 shares, according to data on InsiderInsights.com and first reported by investor analyst site SeekingAlpha.com. Anadarko’s stock price has fallen nearly $10 per share since the April 17 blast. However, the trouble may have just begun for the Texas-based company at the center of Colorado’s hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) boom. On May 25, an Anadarko oil well exploded just a few miles from the mid-April gas line explosion site. That incident, also in Firestone, Colorado, left one dead and three others injured. Terror in Britain: What Did the Prime Minister Know? Critical questions — such as why the security service MI5 maintained terrorist “assets” in Manchester and why the government did not warn the public of the threat in their midst — remain unanswered, deflected by the promise of an internal “review”. The alleged suicide bomber, Salman Abedi, was part of an extremist group, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, that thrived in Manchester and was cultivated and used by MI5 for more than 20 years. by John Pilger
Britain: The Tory Party – the real terrorist sympathisers The sudden rise of Labour in the polls following the manifesto leak – and the decline in support for the Tories following a litany of PR-disasters and U-turns – has lead to panic in ruling class circles and demand for a new strategy. This new strategy is to send the smear campaign against Corbyn into overdrive, as aptly demonstrated by the Evening Standard headline, “Tories tear into Jeremy Corbyn after Labour buoyed by polls boost”.
