No pot of gold for most in first Trump budget: Darcy cartoon  Trumponomics Quote of the Day:

It may have seemed that way, but there was always serious purpose. In 2008, a secret Pentagon document prepared by the “Cyber Counterintelligence Assessments Branch” foretold a detailed plan to discredit WikiLeaks and smear Assange personally. The “mission” was to destroy the “trust” that was WikiLeaks’ “centre of gravity.” This would be achieved with threats of “exposure [and] criminal prosecution.” Silencing and criminalizing WikiLeaks was the aim. Perhaps this was understandable. WikiLeaks has exposed the way the U.S. government dominates much of human affairs, including its epic crimes, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq: the wholesale killing of civilians and the contempt for sovereignty and international law. These disclosures are protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. As a presidential candidate in 2008, Barack Obama, a professor of constitutional law, lauded whistleblowers as “part of a healthy democracy [and they] must be protected from reprisal.” In 2012, the Obama campaign boasted on its website that Obama had prosecuted more whistleblowers in his first term than all other U.S. presidents combined. Before Chelsea Manning had even received a trial, Obama had publicly pronounced her guilty. Few serious observers doubt that should the U.S. get its hands on Assange, a similar fate awaits him. According to documents released by Edward Snowden, he is on a “Manhunt target list.” Threats of his kidnapping and assassination became almost political and media currency in the U.S. following then Vice-President Joe Biden’s preposterous claim that the WikiLeaks founder was a “cyber-terrorist.” Hillary Clinton proposed her own expedient solution: “Can’t we just drone this guy.” — John  Pilger, Now the Full Story of the Persecution of Julian Assange Can Be Told

The 15 Heartless Proposals in Trump’s Budget Budget Director Mick Mulvaney’s remarks show they aren’t operating in the real world. Not even close. By Steven Rosenfeld Black Liberation/Civil Rights:When it Comes to Deportations, Trump Can’t Hold a Candle to Obama Both the corporate media and Donald Trump, himself, want you to believe that Trump is the “worst thing ever to happen to undocumented people.” There is no question that Trump aspires to be the Great Deporter, but “Barack Obama is damn near unbeatable when it comes to kicking people out of the country. Trump is not yet even a contender.” A Black Agenda Radio commentary by executive editor Glen FordFreedom Rider: Endless Propaganda The Big Lie works. The Democrat/War Party concocts several howling lies per week, amplifies them endlessly in the corporate media, and then repeats the process the next week with a new batch of lies against targeted states and Donald Trump’s associates. Meanwhile, the Democrats offer absolutely nothing of substance. They want “to get back into power without presenting any policies that the people want to see enacted.” by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret KimberleyKaren Spellman and the SNCC Legacy Project –Black Power Chronicle Part IIFrom her vantage point in SNCC, Karen Spellman saw the birth of the modern Black Power Movement. She says “most Black people equated the concept of Black power with Black pride, Black consciousness, self-determination, controlling our own destinies and an end to repression.” Whites and conservative Blacks generally viewed the movement negatively, “as a direct challenge to white authority and the status quo.” by BAR Editor and Columnist Dr. Marsha AdebayoThe Cuban Revolution: Still in Motion The author’s recent trip to Cuba confirmed his confidence in the power of people to transform their lives. It is also clear that “the US government has not stopped its ceaseless attack on the Cuban Revolution and probably never will as long as the US possesses an imperialist system.” Nevertheless, every Cuban he spoke to “reiterated how the revolution remains non-negotiable.” by Danny HaiphongRa Was Right Some artists write poems and novels.  Others paint and perform.  Some build imaginary worlds you can iummerse and lose yourself in.  Some bring messages from the future, prophesying, fortelling the fates of this one.  Our poet recalls one of these… by BAR poet in residence Raymond Nat TurnerNever Mind the Real Russia, It’s All about Trump: An Interview with David Swanson Anti-war activist and author David Swanson told the author that party partisanship fuels the anti-Russian obsession among rank and file Democrats. “If the Democratic Party had made a grand cause of friendship with Russia and disarmament and ending nuclear weapons madness, then liberal supporters of the Democratic Party would be out there saying, ‘Let’s be friends with Russia.’” by Ann Garrison Environment:

The Dark Heart of California’s Water Politics California is portrayed as the green leader, but the reality is much different. The state has some good environmental laws that protect our rivers, lakes, streams and ocean waters, but they’re enforced very poorly. These laws includes the California Endangered Species Act, California Environmental Water Quality Act, California Coastal Act, Marine Life Protection Act and a host of others. by Dan Bacher Ongoing Big Energy Crisis:

War in Afghanistan Is Killing Children in Record Numbers in 2017 2016 was the deadliest year for children in Afghanistan since the US occupation, according to a UN report. Of the 11,418 civilian casualties documented last year, 3,512 were children. And already, 2017 has seen a 21 percent increase in child deaths over the same period last year. As the US ramps up its war without end, what will it mean for Afghan children? By Ruchi Kumar Venezuela: constituent assembly elections and the reactionary offensive for ”regime change”  The calling of Constituent Assembly and Regional elections has been responded with an escalation of the policy of “regime change” on the part of the opposition. This is a critical moment for the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela. By Jorge Martin Health, Science, Education, and Welfare:
