They Blinded Me With Science Marchers cast a light on an anti-science administration. By Khalil BendibThe First 100 Days Quote of the Day:

Undocumented parents of U.S. citizens are signing power-of-attorney papers so that if they are seized by ICE agents someone will have the legal authority to care for the children they leave behind. Businesses in immigrant communities have seen a precipitous drop in sales as families hoard what little money they have so they will have some resources if they are deported. Employers who hire the undocumented often abuse workers, including through wage theft, knowing that their employees will not report them. Undocumented people who witness criminal activity or are victims of crime usually refuse to go to the police. Those who drive do so without insurance, a driver’s license or registration, and no one carries foreign passports or papers that can identify them as noncitizens. Landlords are extorting higher rents. And some parents, fearful of taking their children to school or of having undocumented children in school, are keeping their sons and daughters home. Day care centers have experienced a drop in enrollment. Police, in open acts of racial profiling, randomly pull over drivers who appear to be Latino. And ICE raids routinely sweep up people whose names never appeared on deportation orders. ICE, for example, arrested a young woman last week with no criminal record in a sweep of Elizabeth’s busiest immigrant business district. —Terrorizing the Vulnerable

May Day March Planned as Trump Stokes Fear Among Immigrants — If the past is any predictor, millions around the United States will march May 1 in defense of immigrant rights and against the increasingly draconian policies of President Trump. By Amy Goodman and Denis Moynihan Terrorizing the Vulnerable Undocumented people are living in fear as the Trump administration accelerates arrests under a brutal policy whose “family values” call for ripping families apart. By Chris Hedges The High Costs of US Warmongering Against North Korea In line with Vice President Pence’s announcement that the “era of strategic patience is over,” the Trump administration has deployed a nuclear-powered, guided-missile submarine to the Korean peninsula, heightening tensions in the region. But those familiar with US history question whether amped-up tensions with North Korea are mainly being used as a justification to increase the US military budget.  By Christine Ahn U.S. Just Nuclear Bombed Saturn!: The Crash of Cassini and the Nuclearization of Space Despite protests around the world, the Cassini space probe—containing more deadly plutonium than had ever been used on a space device—was launched 20 years ago. And this past weekend—on Earth Day—the probe and its plutonium were sent crashing into Saturn. by Karl Grossman

Obama’s New Job: Guardian of Official Lies  Having spent eight years telling lies about who the U.S. was fighting in its so-called “War on Terror” (secular governments) and who it was allied with (jihadists), ex-president Obama must now ensure that these lies become part of the “common base line of facts” shared by all Americans. “Fake news” must not be allowed to interrupt the flow of the official (false) narrative. That’s how “legacies” are made, and how power is preserved. by BAR executive editor Glen FordAn Answer To Cornel West – A “Peoples Party” Won’t be Imposed From Above In a Democracy Now interview Dr. Cornel West said he was part of a new “Peoples Party” the invention of former Bernie staffers who want to recruit their old boss and maybe some other Democrats to leave the capitalist duopoly. In the first place, Bernie is a war Democrat content to stay where he is. In the second place, stealing the politicians of the corrupt Democratic party is no shortcut to organizing the people. Chiapas Conference Issues a Challenge: Zapatistas urge scientists to join in building a better world With all the damage that the capitalists have done to the people through their misuse of science, can you create a science that is truly human? Can we work collectively to defend life and humanity? John Bellamy Foster: ‘We need a resistance movement for the planet’ The climate movement is central, but we have to fight on all fronts, combining broad defense of human rights and opposition to war and imperialism, with the fight to save Earth as a place of human habitation.

The Launch of SAFTU – the birth of a new federation in a flamable environment Over the weekend of the 21-23 of April, 1384 delegates from 24 unions gathered in Boksburg for the founding congress of the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU). By Ben Morken Labour Brexit conundrum: fight for a socialist alternative! With the triggering of Article 50 and an upcoming general election to be fought primarily over the issue of Brexit, there has been much debate about Labour’s position on this key question and how it and the wider labour movement should respond to the Tories’ Brexit plan. French presidential election leaves no choice for the working class! The results of the first round of the presidential election open a new phase of the political crisis in France. As in April 2002, the second round will be between the right and the far right. But much has changed since then. The economic crisis of 2008 has taken place. The probable victory of Emmanuel Macron, in two weeks time, will not lead to the relative political stability that Chirac benefited from in the wake of his victory in May 2002. By Révolution
