Making United Great Again: Fly the friendly skies, or get a beat-down trying. By Khalil BendibCorporate ‘Privacy’ Quote of the Day:

Trump’s current Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, has been clearer. At a Thursday press conference, Sessions seemed to suggest that the administration had every desire to cast a lasso around the information activist, and those in the “leaking” trade.  “We are going to step up our effort and already stepping up our efforts on all leaks.  This is a matter that’s gone beyond anything I’m aware of.” For Sessions, the security environment has become one of anarchic, dysfunctional gloom, riddled with breaches.  Notwithstanding the profiting of the Trump campaign from that every same environment, “We have professionals that have been in the security business of the United States for many years that are shocked by the number of leaks and some of them are quite serious.” Serious maybe, but only for the person in power at the time. A final remark by Trump is apt here, if for no other reason than indicating, rather appropriately, the role of the WikiLeaks information machine.  The defence may well choose to cite it should Assange ever be surrendered, or rendered and tried by US authorities: “The dishonest media likes saying I am in Agreement with Julian Assange – wrong.  I simply state what he states, it is for the people”.[6]Trump, the DOJ and Julian Assange

Donald Trump: Ruling Class President by Paul StreetRoaming Charges: Dude, Where’s My War? Based on the evidence of the last few weeks, when it comes to his role as Commander Supremo of “his” military, Donald J. Trump seems to suffer from a kind of attention deficit disorder. Each week there’s a new threat emanating from the West Wing, louder than the last one and aimed at a new target. The decibel level of Trump’s war shrieks is escalating in rough relation to the downward curve of his poll numbers. by Jeffrey St. ClairTrump, the DOJ and Julian Assange There had been some doubts from initial enthusiasts about WikiLeaks once information from leaks released on its site started puncturing holes in an already worn Democratic campaign in 2016.  Accusations of being an agent of Russian interests were being fired by various officials across the Clinton spectrum, though many Republicans, seeing the Clinton ship holed, preferred reticence, and even praise. by Binoy Kampmark

Melting Athabasca Glacier The melting Athabasca Glacier is one of the six principal toes of the Columbia Ice field, located in the Canadian Rockies. The Columbia Ice field is a surviving remnant of the thick ice mass that once mantled most of Western Canada’s mountains. Due to the warming climate, the glacier has receded more than 1.5 km in the past 125 years and lost over half of its volume. More Lead Poisoning on the Agenda — The (Lazier Fair)  Government Plans to Poison more Poor Children: EPA Considers Gutting Regulations on Lead Contamination The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sent out a notice on Wednesday announcing a series of upcoming public meetings in which it will consider gutting rules and regulations meant to protect the public from lead and hazardous chemicals, including training programs designed to prevent children from being exposed to lead paint. Trump and Global Warming Destroy Rivers One of the least understood aspects of global warming is entire countries threatened by loss of major rivers, for example, the Lancang River (70% of its headwater glaciers gone), affectionately known as “the Danube of the East” of China and the Andes river system in South America (the World Bank warning that millions threatened by loss of glacial water supplies), and the Lower Colorado River in America, at “the breaking point.” By Robert HunzikerOngoing Big Energy Crisis:One Community’s Fight for Clean Air in Louisiana’s Cancer Alley It doesn’t take carefully calibrated measurements to realize there is something wrong with the air around the Denka Performance Elastomer plant in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. From a small plane, I photographed the petrochemical manufacturing facility, until recently owned by DuPont, noting its proximity to the community around its fence line. The emissions were horrible. Breathing them while circling the plant twice left me with a headache that lingered for hours. The surrounding communities and I were inhaling emissions of chloroprene and 28 other chemicals, which the plant uses to make the synthetic rubber commonly known as Neoprene. British Perspectives 2017 British Perspectives 2017 Although initially written in December last year (and therefore already overtaken in places by new events and developments, most notably the announcement of the general election), this document written by Socialist Appeal provides an analysis of the main processes affecting British politics and society, as well as outlining the fundamental contradictions facing the ruling class and leaders of the labour movement. It is clear that the current political period in Britain is incredibly intense, and that a radical analysis and perspective is needed more than ever before. By Socialist Appeal Why Does North Korea Want Nukes? When in 2001, after the events of 9-11, the Bush II neo-conservatives militarized policy and declared North Korea to be an element of the “axis of evil.” All bets were now off. In that context, North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, reasoning that nuclear weapons were the only way possible to prevent a full scale attack by the US in the future. Given a stark choice between another war with the US and all that would entail this decision seems hardly surprising. Under no circumstances could any westerner reasonably expect, after all the history I’ve described, that the North Korean regime would simply submit to any ultimatums by the US, by far the worst enemy Korea ever had measured by the damage inflicted on the entirety of the Korean peninsula. by Paul Atwood Health, Science, Education, and Welfare:
