Quote/Video 0f the Day:
Here’s one of its extraordinary insights: We are now really all headed into a future dominated by inherited wealth, as capital is concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, giving the very rich ever greater power over politics, government and society. Patrimonial capitalism is the name for it, and it has potentially terrifying consequences for democracy. — Bill Moyers

United States/Israel Genocide Continues!:
Israel-Palestine: US blocks UN Statement For Third Time in a Week Washington, a close ally of Israel, has reportedly blocked UNSC statements that condemned Israel’s military response and called for a ceasefire. A third United Nations Security Council emergency meeting in a week – amid the deadly Israeli offensive in Gaza – has again ended with no concrete outcome after the United States blocked a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The meeting on Sunday came after the US reportedly twice blocked over the last week resolutions that would have condemned Israel’s military response and called for a ceasefire. Nearly 200 people, including 58 children, have been killed in the intense bombing of the besieged enclave of two million people.
Israel’s Committing War Crimes In Gaza, Palestinian FM Tells UN Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Sunday accused Israel of committing “war crimes” in its nearly weeklong offensive on Gaza as he urged international pressure at a United Nations Security Council session. “Some may not want to use these words – war crimes and crimes against humanity – but they know they are true,” al-Maliki told the virtual session on the crisis on Sunday. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pleaded for an immediate end to the violence and warned of an “uncontainable security and humanitarian crisis”. But the council meeting, already delayed by Israel’s ally the United States, resulted in little action.‘We Need Food’: Palestinians Displaced In Gaza Call For Supplies UN says over 38,000 Palestinians have been internally displaced in Gaza as Israeli continues intense bombardment of the territory. Cradling her newborn baby Hasan on the floor of a classroom in Gaza City, her five other children flitting in and out, Suheir al-Arbeed lists the basic necessities they are lacking. “We need food, clothes, duvets, mattresses and milk,” al-Arbeed, who gave birth two weeks ago, told Al Jazeera in a phone interview. “My back hurts from sleeping on a thin cover on the floor.” By Linah Alsaafin
The United States/Israel Palestinian Genocide Escalation:
How the United States Helps To Kill Palestinians U.S. policy has perpetuated the crisis and atrocities of the Israeli occupation by unconditionally supporting Israel in three distinct ways: militarily, diplomatically and politically. The U.S. corporate media usually report on Israeli military assaults in occupied Palestine as if the United States is an innocent neutral party to the conflict. In fact, large majorities of Americans have told pollsters for decades that they want the United States to be neutral in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But U.S. media and politicians betray their own lack of neutrality by blaming Palestinians for nearly all the violence and framing flagrantly disproportionate, indiscriminate and therefore illegal Israeli attacks as a justifiable response to Palestinian actions. The classic formulation from U.S. officials and commentators is that “Israel has the right to defend itself,” never “Palestinians have the right to defend themselves,” even as the Israelis massacre hundreds of Palestinian civilians, destroy thousands of Palestinian homes and seize ever more Palestinian land. ways: militarily, diplomatically and politically.By Medea Benjamin and Nicolas J.S. Davies
The United States/Israel Palestinian Genocide Escalation: By supplying weapons that could be used to commit war crimes, the U.S. government is taking the risk of further fueling attacks against civilians and seeing more people killed or injured by U.S.-made weapons.” —Philippe Nassif, Amnesty International: Omar, Tlaib Lead Call to Stop ‘Appalling’ $735 Million US Weapons Sale to Israel Amid Gaza Carnage “The Minnesota Democrat warned the munitions sale “will undercut any attempts at brokering a ceasefire.” Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is among the chorus of lawmakers and advocacy groups warning that U.S. President Joe Biden’s effort to sell $735 million in munitions to the Israeli government is a “green light for continued escalation” in the occupied Gaza Strip, where the Netanyahu regime is carrying out a devastating air and artillery assault that has killed more than 200 people.By Jake Johnson
How America Went From Mom-and-Pop Capitalism to Techno-Feudalism In a matter of decades, the United States has gone from a somewhat benign form of capitalism to a neo-feudal form that has created an ever-widening gap in wealth and power. In his 2013 bestseller Capital in the 21st Century, French economist Thomas Piketty declared that “the level of inequality in the US is probably higher than in any other society at any time in the past anywhere in the world.” By Ellen Brown

That’s why it is high time we rapidly and substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels and re-stabilize the ice sheet and our climate.” —Niklas Boers, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research “There will be substantially enhanced melting in the future—which is quite worrying,” said researchers. Black Agenda Radio for Week of May 17, 2021 With Margaret Kimberley and Glen FordIsrael Deliberately Provoked Violence The blooshed that has taken more than 200 Palestinian lives is the result of “a planned provocation to feed the ultra-right” in Israel, said Sara Flounders, of the International Action Center. The Israelis periodically provoke such confrontations, confident that they “have the support” of the United States, said the veteran activist.
US Fakes ISIS Threat in Congo to Justify AFRICOM Presence The US continues to insist that ISIS is to blame for recent violence in the Congo, where six million people have died since 1996, despite the fact that hardly any Muslims reside in the mineral-rich country. A UN Group of Experts found “no link” between Islamic jihadists and rebel groups, said Kambale Musavuli, a Congolese analyst with the Center for Research on Congo-Kinshasa. The phony ISIS connection “is just used to justify” new military agreements with AFRICOM, the US military command in Africa., said Musavuli.

Homeowners’ Insurance Companies in Florida Are Raising Rates by Unprecedented Amounts, Effectively Confiscating the Stimulus Checks from Struggling Families and Seniors On February 24, President Joe Biden renewed the 2020 Presidential Proclamation, making it clear that the National Emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic is still in effect. Most Americans don’t expect to become the victims of state-sanctioned price gouging during a National Emergency. But across Florida, struggling families and senior citizens are opening their homeowners’ insurance renewal notices to learn that their policy will now cost them $800 to $1200 more than it did last year. Rates are going up by 30 to 40 percent in many cases – during a National Emergency. Making the outrage among residents more palpable is the fact that a hurricane didn’t even touch down in Florida in 2020. By Pam Martens and Russ Martens

Education, Health, Science, and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be, a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People Vote on Healthcare
