It’s baffling with the reaction that the law enforcement had and whoever else was involved from an authoritarian standpoint to see the National Guard standing on those same steps when there was a peaceful protest and now to see a terrorist attack and there was no National Guard. It just goes to show you where this country is and where this country has always been and probably where it’s going to stay, to be quite honest. Nothing’s changed. I think through social media and all of these different things we have at our fingertips today, we’re more aware of things. But nothing has changed. This is the same America that it’s been. It’s no different. . . . It just goes to show the policing system was built against Black people, Black and Brown people,” Green said via USA Today. “That’s the reason those reactions are different. That’s the reason someone can walk or run or bust their way into the Speaker of the House’s office and put their feet on the desk like they’re sitting at home on their couch and nothing happens. Stop calling those people protestors. They’re terrorists. They’re not protestors. Protestors is what you saw when we saw 500 National Guard members standing on those same steps when there were Black and Brown people saying, ‘We want to be treated equally.’ That’s a protest. Storming into a building and busting out windows and carrying podiums and all of this other stuff, that’s not a protest. That’s a terrorist attack. . . . “So stop describing those people the same way you describe someone who’s just standing there making a chant and saying, ‘We want justice, we want peace.’ Stop using the same words. It’s disrespectful. It’s ridiculous. And it’s shameful to keep calling them protestors. They’re not f—ing protestors, they’re f—ing terrorists! It’s almost a slap in the face and almost a ‘f–k you’ to every Black person in America who goes through these things,” Green said. “It’s almost like they want to show you they have power and want to show you I can say ‘f–k you and there is nothing you can do about it.’ And so that’s just what this country is and what this country’s been and probably where this country will stay.”

The newly elected Congress is hiring a wave of corporate lobbyists to fill key staff roles. The embrace of lobbyists makes Congress a welcoming environment for their former corporate clients, which now have an inside voice in the legislative process. Trump Can Be Indicted Under Federal, State and DC Laws for His Role in Jan. 6 The legal evidence is damning: Donald Trump should be held criminally liable for “seditious conspiracy” and “inciting insurrection” for his role in stoking the events of January 6, when an angry mob of Trump loyalists, incited by the president himself, stormed the Capitol building to stop the congressional counting of votes for Joe Biden in the Electoral College. The mob easily breached the Capitol building, rampaged through the halls of Congress — some waving Confederate flags — terrorizing senators and congress members. In stark contrast to the overwhelming and violent police force used against the largely peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters, there was little resistance offered by law enforcement against Trump’s mostly white minions as they entered the building where Congress was meeting and tore it apart. In the Face of Far Right Violence, We Must Organize to Survive All empires fall, y’all. At least that was the thought I had on repeat as I watched an undisciplined fascist mob attack the Capitol in Washington, D.C. I watched in fascinated horror as these mostly white activists rioted to essentially tear apart their own system, unmasked as the coronavirus pandemic continues to claim thousands of lives. As a Black queer person who’s attended many protests in D.C., I was struck by the lack of law enforcement’s presence, violence and force. The disparity between the police response to the Trumpist mob and the police response to the protests I’ve attended made it even more clear that the goal of law enforcement is to facilitate and protect white supremacy, not challenge it. It emerged toward the end of a centuries-long period during which it was easily assumed that the role of people of African descent was to provide free labor until death. The foundations of U.S. wealth and reach are heavy bricks sunken into the bloody soil of that labor. There are many flags that could be created and waved if the issue at hand were the right of states to self-determine their own destinies, but those who claim the U.S. confederacy are easily aligning with a very specific and racist right, a very specific white supremacy. Sometimes things only make sense when seen through a magnifying lens. As it happens, I’m thinking about reality, the very American and global reality clearly repeating itself as 2021 begins. We all know, of course, that we’re living through a once-in-a-century-style pandemic; that millions of people have lost their jobs, a portion of which will never return; that the poorest among us, who can withstand such acute economic hardship the least, have been slammed the hardest; and that the global economy has been kneecapped, thanks to a battery of lockdowns, shutdowns, restrictions of various sorts, and health-related concerns. More sobering than all of this: more than 360,000 Americans (and counting) have already lost their lives as a result of Covid-19 with, according to public health experts, far more to come. Ever. Wall Street’s Felon Banks Take a Short Holiday from Financing Political Campaigns Five-count felon JPMorgan Chase is shocked – shocked! – that corporate financing of “the people’s House” has led to corruption and instability in Washington. The Board of Directors of JPMorgan Chase obviously did not see money as a corrupting influence because it has boosted the pay of its Chairman and CEO, Jamie Dimon, to $31.5 million annually despite the fact that Dimon sat at the helm of this bank through its unprecedented five felony counts in a span of six years. The bank admitted to all five counts and got deferred prosecution agreements every single time from the U.S. Department of Justice. Not one of the myriad federal regulators of this bank demanded that Dimon step down as unfit to oversee a bank holding $2 trillion in depositors’ life savings as this six-year crime spree went unchecked.
