The swirl of events on Saturday, which changed by the hour, was the culmination of longstanding tensions between the White House and Mr. Berman’s office, which in the past three years has brought a series of highly sensitive cases that have troubled and angered Mr. Trump and others in his inner circle.   First, there was the arrest and prosecution in 2018 of Michael D. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s longtime legal fixer. Then, there was the indictment last year of a state-owned bank in Turkey with political connections that had drawn the president’s attention. More recently, Mr. Berman began an inquiry into Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer and one of his most ardent supporters.— Trump Fires U.S. Attorney in New York Who Investigated His Inner Circle

“Watch me,” Big Floyd commands, again and again, on a freestyle circulating widely since his murder. In the end, millions did. And the resultant activist upsurge is thrilling. But we need a sustained effort, for years, to dismantle this country’s police and housing systems—both racist, both violent, both rotten at the core. — Nick Alexandrov

United States:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! Law and Order? — Who’s Law? — Who’s Order?

Trump Fired U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman To Prevent Law and Order!:  As Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Face Criminal Probes, Barr Fires Top Prosecutor; Tries to Replace Him with Banks’ Former Lawyer, Jay Clayton Shortly after 9 p.m. last evening, the U.S. Attorney General, William Barr, stunned prosecutors in the Southern District of New York with the announcement that their boss, Geoffrey Berman, was stepping down as U.S. Attorney in that District and would be replaced with the sitting Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Jay Clayton, who lacks even a shred of criminal prosecution experience. What Clayton does have is a lot of experience representing Wall Street’s largest banks, like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, both of whom are currently under intense criminal investigations by the Justice Department. Clayton was a former partner at Wall Street’s go-to law firm, Sullivan & Cromwell, which is currently representing Goldman in the criminal case and representing JPMorgan in various matters. United States: High Stakes in Trump’s Attacks on Black Lives Matter Protests Since the repeal of the heart of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court in 2013, Georgia has closed about 200 polling booths, leaving just a handful in areas where the population is heavily African American By Barry Sheppard

Organized, disciplined, self-defense is not only our right, it is our duty.” — Gur Miller   A far-right extremist movement born on social media and fueled by anti-government rhetoric has emerged as a real-world threat in recent weeks, with federal authorities accusing some of its adherents of working to spark violence at largely peaceful protests roiling the nation. At a time when President Trump and other top U.S. officials have claimed — with little evidence — that leftist groups were fomenting violence, federal prosecutors have charged various supporters of a right-wing movement called the “boogaloo bois,” with crimes related to plotting to firebomb a U.S. Forest Service facility, preparing to use explosives at a peaceful demonstration and killing a security officer at a federal courthouse. EPA Will No Longer Regulate Toxic Compound In Drinking Water The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday that it will not regulate or limit a toxic chemical compound linked to infant brain damage in drinking water. The big picture: The Trump administration has revoked or rolled back 66 environmental regulations, per a New York Times analysis. Eight of the regulation reversals have taken place since late April, during the coronavirus pandemic  Details: The EPA says that levels of the toxic compound — perchlorate — have already been reduced in the U.S. through drinking water regulations in California, Nevada, and Massachusetts, and improved storage for drinking water disinfectants.

  • In 2011, the Obama administration said that perchlorate caused by runoff contaminated drinking water for as many as 16 million Americans, PBS reports.

  • The EPA says its health impact analysis shows that a higher concentration of perchlorate is necessary to cause health problems than concentrations found in 2011

Why Killer Cops Go Free In our country, the police, who have been infiltrated by Nazis and Klansmen, are above the law which is why the police in my city are permitted to continue to defy federal mandates that they reform. Twin Histories: Segregation and Police Violence in Minneapolis George Floyd’s murder tape gives sight, if you look closely, of a world little-named in pieces on his killing. Sustained police savagery marks this world, one city bureaucrats worked, long ago, to segregate, and more recently to keep that way. It is Minneapolis. And knowing its linked police and housing histories is crucial to making sense of today’s protests. These histories show a city saturated in violence—state-sanctioned violence. By Nick Alexandrov

Slaveowners Got Reparations For Financial Loss After Emancipation. Enslaved African-Americans Got Nothing White Americans opposed to paying reparations to descendants of slaves might not realize their ancestors received them after their slaves were freed. According to an op-ed by professor Tera Hunter in the New York Times, President Abraham Lincoln paid white Union loyalists up to $300 for every enslaved person freed. The reparations were made through the District of Columbia Emancipation Act.  According to Hunter, the largest individual payout under the act was $18,000 for 69 slaves. In other cases, slaveowners petitioned state, local and colonial governments for compensation when their “property” was lost or stolen.  by Isheka N. Harrison

Another 1.5 Million File for Unemployment as Billionaires Make $600B During Pandemic Another 1.5 million people filed unemployment claims last week, bringing the total to over 45 million since the coronavirus crisis began. This marks the 13th week in a row in which more than a million people filed for unemployment. This comes as the total wealth of the nation’s billionaires has jumped by nearly $600 billion since March 18, according to a report by Americans for Tax Fairness. During this period, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos made $44 billion. Facebook CEOMark Zuckerberg made $32 billion.

Economy:

The Fed really has created a massive asset bubble here in the last few months. The lender of last resort has become the lender of the entire resort. And no red line shall remain uncrossed.     The Fed has basically created a gambling casino at this point. And all the gamblers have moved in. From my perspective, the danger here is that the Fed is overdoing it and zombifying the economy. They’re in the process of inserting itself ever deeper into markets. And that makes the Fed itself too big to fail. And the Fed losing control over the asset bubble is now the biggest risk factor to the economy. Remember Alan Greenspan mentioned if markets drop 10 percent that impacts GDP growth by 1 percent.     So now we’ve had this massive rally, which still could be a bear market rally by the way, and after prices have reached levels that we’ve rarely ever seen. Let me give you two examples here. Specifically, one is market cap to GDP and I know Guy has mentioned this on the show before. There’ve only been two periods in history where the markets have disconnected so far from the economy that it’s reached levels of 150 percent and higher. One of those eras was the Nasdaq bubble in 2000 and the other one, ironically, was the February 2020 top – because, obviously, the Fed had already printed significant amounts of money in 2019 with their repo operations.— Sven Henrich, the Lead Market Strategist at Northman Trader,  Wall Street Veterans Call Out the Fed for Creating a Dangerous Stock Market Bubble

Wall Street Veterans Call Out the Fed for Creating a Dangerous Stock Market Bubble As corporate-friendly Republican members of the Senate Banking Committee and House Financial Services Committee engaged in effusive praise at hearings this week over the efforts of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to quickly establish a plethora of corporate bailout facilities, the voices of Wall Street veterans have struck a different chord. These long-term market watchers are warning that the Fed has created an unprecedented stock market bubble that is destined to end badly. By Pam Martens and Russ Martens

Health, Science, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘governn’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare

Trump, Fauci’s Boss, is the leader of the Anti-Science Crusade: Fauci Warns Of Troubling ‘Anti-Science’ Beliefs As Nation Battles Coronavirus “That’s unfortunate because, you know, science is truth,” the infectious disease expert said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said Thursday he was troubled by the rise in “anti-science” beliefs throughout the country, saying such ill-founded sentiments could be “a problem” as the nation seeks to move past the coronavirus pandemic. Who Should Decide When and How Schools Reopen? Here’s a hint: Not politicians, district officials, bean counters or the president.   It is mid-June and school districts around the country are still wrestling with the impossibly complex issue of reopening during an ongoing pandemic. Underlying it all is the reality that the different stakeholders all have different needs, fears and hopes for what can and should happen. In my city, Oakland, teachers, school workers, parents and students are wondering about the details of our school district’s plan for starting the new school year on August 10. Anxiety levels all-around are high. The recent 40% hike in COVID cases in Alameda County a week into the current re-opening phase does not bode well. By Rob Rooke
