We Can’t Afford the Rich Anymore

Quotes of the Day:

We obtained the share totals for each of the 12 regional Federal Reserve banks. Those share totals are listed on the individual financial statements located here. We multiplied the share totals by their $100 par value, and then as the above indicates, multiplied that total by 2. The shocking news is this: the mega banks that own the New York Fed are only responsible for $42.6 billion of its liabilities, despite the fact that those liabilities total $3.9 trillion.  When we did the math for all 12 regional Fed banks, the bank share owners were responsible for just 1.8 percent of the $6.98 trillion in liabilities that the Federal Reserve has created with the flick of an electronic button. In other words, an institution controlled by five unelected people, with the insane power to create money out of thin air by pushing an electronic button, have put taxpayers (and the next generation) on the hook for $6.85 trillion. Today, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will appear before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee. We’ll let you know tomorrow if any of our elected representatives asked him the hard questions that need to be asked. — Taxpayers Are on the Hook for 98 Percent of the Fed’s $6.98 Trillion Balance Sheet

United States:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich.

As The Cornavirus Deat Count Approaches 100,000, Trump Record?: Blame Others!Pompeo Openly Admits He Asked Trump to Fire Inspector General Because He Wasn’t Doing What ‘We Had Tried To Get Him To’ Secretary of State Mike Pompeo openly admitted Monday that he asked President Donald Trump to fire the State Department inspector general—an official who is supposed to be independent from political influence—because he was not “performing a function in a way that we had tried to get him to.” IG Steve Linick was reportedly investigating at least two State Department matters, including whether Trump violated the law with his emergency declaration last year approving billions of dollars in U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which Pompeo approved. Linick was “in the final stages” of the probe when Trump announced his firing on Friday, the New York Timesreported. By Jake Johnson

COVID Deaths in US Approach 100,000 as Trump Administration Misleads Public here is a lot to keep track of these days, and almost all of it is awful.Tensions are high at today’s World Health Organization (WHO) meeting as China and the U.S. growl at each other over Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s baseless allegation that COVID-19 emerged from a Wuhan laboratory, and over accusations from White House trade adviser Peter Navarro that China used air travel to “seed” COVID around the world. Navarro went on to blame the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the monstrous spread of the virus in the U.S., despite the fact that the CDC acts upon the direction of the Trump administration. Meanwhile, in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday, Health and Human Services director Alex Azar tried to deflect blame for the country’s high COVID-19 death toll away from the Trump administration by seemingly blaming people of color for dying. When the issue of the disproportionate effect COVID has had on the Black community was raised, Azar began, “Unfortunately, the American population is a very diverse…” before retreating from saying the quiet part loud on network television. Unfortunately? Say no more, Mr. Azar. You just let the racist cat out of the bigot’s bag. By William Rivers PittFired Inspector General Was Looking Into Pompeo’s Personal Use of Public Funds State Department whistleblower who was fired on Friday evening had been looking into whether Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had abused his powers of office by ordering department employees to carry out personal tasks for him — including walking his dog, picking up his dry-cleaning, and making dinner reservations for his wife and himself, among other errands. Book Review: ‘Why the U.S. Government Assassinated Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.’ Review by Roger Hollander of the book by Roland Sheppard, published by ReMarx Publishing The heart of Sheppard’s work is his analysis of the motive for these two government assassinations. There is nothing more threatening to the U.S. corporate elite, the government, the military and the mass media than the prospect of revolution. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. were developing beyond their original Black liberation philosophies. They were emerging as powerful advocates and organizers for revolutionary change in the American economic and political system. In his final years, Malcolm X expanded the fight against racism to include the fight against poverty and war. In 1962, he supported striking hospital workers in New York City. And he was the first mass leader in the United States to publically oppose America’s war against Vietnam.Poor New York City Neighborhoods Seeing Deaths From Covid at More Than Twice the Rate of Affluent Areas  The Health Department released the new data on the heels of reports that many New Yorkers in wealthy neighborhoods left the city by May 1. • Mumia: Everybody is Getting a Taste of Lockdown The nation’s best known political prisoner, Mumia Abu Jamal, says all of Pennsylania’s incarcerated population has been on 23 hour, 15 minute daily lockdown since the beginning of the health emergency. “That’s how it was on death row and solitary confinement – now it’s like that all around,” said Abu Jamal. In much of the country outside the prison walls, “People are getting a taste of what it’s like to be incarcerated.”
  • Is Genetic Testing a Tool for Reparations? The science of genetics “can be useful for showing continuity, that the people who were harmed are, indeed, ancestors of those who are living today,” said Dr. Jada Benn-Torres, author of a study titled “‘Reparational’ Genetics: Genomic Data and the Case for Reparations in the Caribbean.” However, “It would be my largest fear if genetics were used to suggest who is a member of this or that group,” said Benn-Torres.
  • Rural Blacks and Browns at High Risk “In the last decade more than 125 rural hospitals have closed,” said Dr. Carrie Hemming-Smith, of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and co-author of a study on premature deaths among Black and indigenous people in rural areas. Non-whites in these areas “are much more likely to have chronic conditions and underlying health issues,” said Hemming-Smith, making them more vulnerable to the Covid-19 epidemic.
  • Pandemic Has Shaken Global Capitalism to Its Core Black America’s most prolific political author, Dr Gerald Horne, notes that the bubonic plague “set the stage for the erosion of feudalism in 14th century Europe,” leading to the rise of capitalism. “In 2020, we have the eruption of a new pandemic which is setting the stage for the erosion of the innards of capitalism,” said Horne, a professor of history and African American Studies at the University of Houston.

Teachers Union Says ‘Flimsy’ CDC Flowchart on School Reopenings Shows Trump Disregard for Student Safety “The reality of reopening school buildings and college campuses is that any missteps could cost lives… Once again, this administration has politics trumping science.” The largest education union in the United States on Monday dismissed a one-page guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on school reopenings as nothing but a “watered down” and “flimsy flowchart” that proves once again the Trump administration is more interested in public relations and political victories than the health and safety of the nation’s students and teaching professionals. Taxpayers Are on the Hook for 98 Percent of the Fed’s $6.98 Trillion Balance Sheet If there has been any positive outcome from the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been that the American people are beginning to take a cold, hard look at how the U.S. economy has been engineered as a vast wealth transfer system for the one percent. We have peeled back the dark curtain further today on how the Federal Reserve has been structured as an unlimited money spigot to enrich that one percent as it privatizes profits for the criminally-inclined Wall Street titans and socializes the losses to the law-abiding 99 percent of hardworking Americans. Britain: The Death Agony of Capitalism and the Tasks Confronting Us The pandemic has triggered the deepest crisis in the history of capitalism. There will be no return to ‘normality’. Health, Science, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘governn’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare
