Banks To Make Risk-Free Killing On Small Business BailoutBendib: Covid FashionQuotes of the Day:

Many small businesses are struggling to stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic and have reported they’re having a hard time receiving small business loans. But according to National Public Radio (NPR), one company that had no problem getting such a loan is one with ties to President Donald Trump. The company, NPR’s Robert Benincasa reports, is Continental Materials — which manufactures heating and cooling equipment as well as construction products. Continental, according to Benincasa, qualified for a $5.5 million loan under the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program even though it “had more than $100 million in sales last year.” — Company with Trump ties secures $5.5 million PPP loan — while many small businesses struggle for assistance: report

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things that you said
We were to gain
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said were yours and mine                                            Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we’ve shed before
Did you ever stop to notice

The Second COVID-19 Bailout Still Won’t Be Enough Trump demands that states take the lead on COVID-19 response but won’t give federal support for local governments or workers, and is still fighting oversight for the trillions already spent on stimulus.

United States:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich.

Federal documents: more than 300,000 likely to die if restrictions are lifted – Center for Public Integrity  Federal health officials estimated in early April that more than 300,000 Americans could die from COVID-19 if all social distancing measures are abandoned, and later estimates pushed the possible death toll even higher, according to documents obtained by the Center for Public Integrity. Some outside experts say even that grim outlook may be too optimistic. The documents created by the Department of Health and Human Services spell out the data and analysis the agency is sharing with other federal agencies to help shape their responses to the coronavirus. ‘Deliberately Cruel’: Millions of US Citizens Blocked From Stimulus Payments Because They Married Immigrants “We’re flat broke. We don’t know what’s gonna happen.” Reporting out Monday shed new light on the fact that millions of U.S. citizens are not eligible to receive coronavirus stimulus checks because of who they married. This large group, as the Los Angeles Timesreported, is made of American citizens who file taxes jointly with a spouse who uses an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number—an identification the IRS issues to workers who don’t have a Social Security Number. Trump, The Robber Baron Trump (the Company) Asks Trump (the Administration) for Rent Relief The president’s family business pays at least $3 million a year to the federal government for the lease on its D.C. hotel, which is all but empty because of the virus. The next monthly payment is coming due. President Trump’s signature hotel in the nation’s capital wants a break on its rent. The landlord determining the fate of the request is Mr. Trump’s own administration. Trump International Hotel, just a few blocks from the White House, had been a favored gathering place for lobbyists, foreign dignitaries and others hoping to score points with the president. But like most hotels, it is now nearly empty and looking to cut costs because of the coronavirus pandemic. In recent weeks, the president’s family business has inquired about changing its lease payments, the company confirmed on Tuesday, which the federal government has reported amount to nearly $268,000 per month.  By Ben ProtessSteve Eder and David Enrich

The US is Facing Its ‘Greatest Challenge Since World War II’ — and Its Botched Response is a ‘Crippling Blow to Its Prestige’: Journalist The coronavirus pandemic is not only a daunting health/safety challenge for the United States — it is also a daunting economic challenge. Journalist Ben White, this week in an article for Politico, describes coronavirus as “the greatest challenge since World War II.” But he laments that the Trump Administration’s response has been “small in scope” and “short on creative solutions” in light of how dire a crisis the U.S. is facing. “The nation needs upward of 30 million tests per week to properly track the virus, health experts say,” White explains. “The country is testing only about 1 million a week now. It could take a public health army of more than 100,000 to track and trace those carrying the virus. There are only a few thousand so far.” By Alex Henderson

10 Of Trump’s Most Damaging Coronavirus Lies

  1. Amid a crisis that demands trustworthy leadership, the president has instead sowed chaos, confusion and misinformation.
  2. “Anybody that needs a test gets a test.”
  3. “Within a couple of days [the number of positive cases is] going to be down to close to zero.”
  4. ·     “This is their new hoax.”
  5. ·     Repeated selective amnesia about having fired the experts whose job was to foresee exactly this situation.
  6. “Nobody could have ever seen something like this coming.”
  7. Comparing COVID-19 to the flu.
  8. We’re “very close” to a vaccine. Hyping a speculative, untested drug as a coronavirus Btreatment.
  9. “The cure can’t be worse than the problem.
  10. Bonus accidental truth: “I don’t take any responsibility at all.”

Calls for Vote-by-Mail Intensify After At Least 19 Cases of Coronavirus Are Linked to Wisconsin Primary Election “This was completely avoidable.” Voting rights advocates demanded state and federal lawmakers expand voting-by-mail immediately on Wednesday as Wisconsin health officials announced that nearly 20 new cases of the coronavirus were linked to the in-person voting that took place in the state on April 7. Two weeks after Sen. Bernie Sanders warned that moving ahead with in-person voting for the state elections could “prove deadly” and dozens of civil rights groups and public health experts urged the election be postponed, 19 people who voted in person or worked at polling locations have since tested positive for the virus. We Can’t Let Trump Roll Back 50 Years of Environmental Progress I worked for the EPA for 33 years. We can’t let this administration obliterate half a century of environmental progress On the first Earth Day in 1970, millions of Americans took to the streets to demand clean air, water and land, and advocate for a healthier and more sustainable environment. By the end of the year, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was founded.

Civil Rights/ Black Liberation:

“We have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice,” said King. “The fact is that capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor — both black and white, here and abroad.” —Martin Luther King

The discovery of gold and silver in America, the extirpation, enslavement, and entombment in mines of the aboriginal population, the beginning of the conquest and looting of the East Indies, the turning of Africa into a warren for the commercial hunting of black-skins, signalized the rosy dawn of the era of capitalist production.  … If money … comes into the world with a congenital blood-stain on one cheek, capital comes dripping from head to foot, from every pore, with blood and dirt. — KarlMarx, Chapter Thirty-One: Genesis of the Industrial Capitalist

Without Slavery, Would The U.S. Be The Leading Economic Power? During the middle of the 1800s, cotton became the world’s largest commodity. The cheapest and best cotton came from the southern United States. Edward Baptist argues in his new book, “The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism,” that the forced migration and subsequent harsh treatment of slaves in the cotton fields was integral to establishing the United States as a world economic power. “Slavery continues to have an impact on America in the most basic economic sense,” Baptist told Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson. “We don’t want to hear that at its root, the economic growth depends to a large extent on slavery.”

As Markets Plunged in March, Dark Pools Upped their Trading in JPMorgan’s Stock When the history books of this era are finally written, this will go down as a time when regulators allowed a no-law zone to be drawn around Wall Street. As the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is using taxpayer money to buy up junk bonds to shore up the sagging balance sheets of the behemoth banks on Wall Street and making ¼ of one percent interest loans to those banks against tanking stocks as collateral, those same Wall Street banks are trading their own bank’s stock in their own thinly-regulated internal stock exchanges known as Dark Pools. It simply can’t get any crazier than this — and yet somehow it always does in this unprecedented era. By Pam Martens and Russ Martens

Italy: “The Workers Are Not Cannon Fodder” – After The 30 March Assembly, The Fight For Lockdown Continues… Since the beginning of the healthcare crisis, the decrees issued by the Conte government have, one after the other, increased the number of restrictions. This is on top of the ordinances from the different regions. A campaign has developed and has promoted social distancing through calls to stay at home, hashtags and appeals. But all this fervour did not affect the millions of workers forced to continue going to work in non-essential companies and services. By Mario IavazziHealth, Science, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘governn’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare!

Trump Dismisses New Study on Danger and Ineffectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine A drug that President Donald Trump frequently promoted for use in the treatment for COVID-19 (at one point calling it a “game-changer”) is getting renewed scrutiny after a study found that there was “no evidence” to suggest its application did any good for patients. The study, in fact, found that those who were treated with hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug that some have said showed promise for the treatment of COVID-19 due to anecdotal observations, actually had a higher outcome of death than those who were not treated with the drug.
