Stir Crazy! Episode #12:Labour Party Madness!U.S.:

The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a  Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War!  Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich.

Less than 1% of the United States Has Been Tested!:  Corona Virus Total Tested in the US

Trump Goes Full Authoritarian In Push to Reopen the U.S. ASAP Trump forced the states to figure out their own coronavirus responses—but thinks he has the “total” authority to get rid of their social distancing guidelines all by himself. Since the coronavirus pandemic exploded in the U.S., President Donald Trump has largely put the onus on the states to deal with their own outbreaks, rather than coordinate a strong federal response. “As you know I want the governors to be running things,” Trump said, controversially leaving it up to individual states to set their own stay-at-home orders and largely procure their own life-saving medical equipment. On Monday, governors in multiple U.S. regions announced their intention to take the lead when it comes to reopening their states as well, announcing new coalitions among Northeastern states and West Coast states to coordinate regional approaches when the pandemic begins to subside. But in an abrupt about-face from his previous state-based perspective, the president is now insisting that when it comes to getting things back to normal—he has to be the one in charge. ‘A Complete Abomination’: Mega-Rich Hedge Funds Swoop Down to Grab Covid-19 Small Business Relief Funds As small business owners struggle to obtain desperately needed money from a first-come-first-served federal coronavirus relief program, some wealthy hedge fund managers are attempting snag a share of the $350 billion taxpayer fund with the help of high-powered legal firms that know how to quickly navigate the confusing application process. “Some hedge funds already have applied” for a loan under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), Bloomberg reported Tuesday. PPP is a relief fund for small businesses established by the CARES Act, the sweeping coronavirus stimulus legislation that President Donald Trump signed into law last month. Environment:

Trump’s EPA Is Unleashing the Pollution That Makes Us Vulnerable to COVID-19 ast exposure to air pollution increases the risk that an individual will suffer critical illness after contracting COVID-19, according to a report released on April 8 by researchers at Harvard. In light of this finding, the recent decision of Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to indefinitely suspend environmental rule enforcement is tantamount to gross negligence. And, as waves of the virus come and go, the rule suspension could have consequences for months to come. By Sharon Zhang

  • Whites See Black Kids as “Disturbing the Peace” Sky-high rates of suspension of Black students are caused by a pervasive “system of anti-Blackness” rooted in slavery and Jim Crow, said  Justin Coles, who specializes in Urban Education and Critical Race Studies at the Fordham University Graduate School. “The design of schooling in a ‘slave’ society is not meant for Black youth survival,” said Coles. “When Black bodies enter space they are disturbing the white mythical peace.”

  • Bolivia Coup is Rooted in White Racist Backlash Last year’s “coup has to do with the racist backlash against President Evo Morales and the whole process of indigenous revalorization and empowerment,” said  Tathagatan Ravindran, a Colombia-based professor of anthropology and sociology. After 500 years of white supremacy, “in the 21st century indigenous people took over the leadership of social movements against neoliberal policies” and “brought the first indigenous president to power,” said Dr. Ravindran. “This created a major backlash on the part of the white and mestizo elite.”

  • San Francisco Sends 40 Percent of Jail Inmates Home Chesa Boudin, the leftish district attorney for San Francisco, claims to have reduced the jail population by nearly 40 percent since the onslaught of the epidemic. “That has created the conditions for the jail medical team to implement some level of social distancing, to isolate people who show symptoms, and to find ways to meet the medical needs of folks who have other medical conditions besides Covid-19,” said Boudin, whose 75 year-old father, David Gilbert, is serving time for the 1981 Brinks armored car robbery in New York.

Labor:

Minimum-Wage Workers Are Dying to Keep Everyone Else Alive. They Deserve More. The cashier at the grocery store was doing her job well. Bip-bip-bip went the barcode reader fast-fast-fast as the conveyor carried my food to her hands. Fruit and veggies over here, bread over there, heavy stuff down the middle, all to help the bagger organize the load without crushing anything delicate. The hum of the store’s clockwork went on around us like the drone of an active beehive. It was all very mundane, but for the broad plexiglass blast shield standing between us, but for the fact that she and I were wearing masks — mine made by my mother at her sewing machine, hers made by someone with a clear affinity for ladybugs. It was mundane but for the fact that she disinfected the credit card keypad and conveyor belt with wipes after every customer came through. Mundane but for the fact that the next customer in line stood so far away that she probably couldn’t read the labels in the candy rack. By William Rivers Pitt

Economy:

Three of the Biggest Banks on Wall Street Have $7.4 Trillion In Off-Balance Sheet Exposures In the past few weeks everyone from Fed Chair Jerome Powell to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to former Fed Chair Janet Yellen to bank analyst Mike Mayo have appeared on TV to tell the American people that the big banks on Wall Street are well capitalized. To put it in Janet Yellen’s exact words on CNBC last Thursday, “we have a strong, well capitalized banking system.” These folks have to keep repeating this mantra to the public because the public is increasingly getting curious as to why the New York Fed has had to pump a cumulative $9 trillion in cash to these Wall Street banks, since September 17 of last year, if they are so well capitalized. Can big banks actually be well capitalized and have no liquid money to make loans – the key function of a bank? As we have regularly noted, the Fed’s trillions of dollars in cash infusions to the banks began months before there was any coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak anywhere in the world. Coronavirus in Africa: Kick Out Imperialism! The coronavirus pandemic is a turning point in history. The world economy is receiving one savage blow after another. Healthcare systems are totally overwhelmed in the advanced capitalist countries as a result of decades of attacks on living standards. The inefficient and ghastly nature of capitalism is in full display in the west, where people until recently enjoyed at least a semi-civilised existence. In Africa, Asia and Latin America the consequences of a full-scale outbreak will be catastrophic. By Ben Morken

Britain: Labour Leaked Report – Drain the Cesspit! In a matter of hours, it has transformed the struggle inside the party. The mood amongst rank and file members is explosive. Already, letters demanding action are being circulated, and activists are beginning to organise.

Health, Science, Education, and Welfare:

The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who ‘governn’, pass universal healthcare for themselves, but they cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare!
