Quotes of the Day:
“If there were not an Israel, we would have to invent one to make sure our interests were preserved,” Biden said Sept. 30 at a conference in Washington.
“America’s support for Israel’s security is unshakable, period,” Biden said, underlining the commitment that President Obama had to Israel. Biden spoke to J Street, a group promoting a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, shortly after he and President Barack Obama met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. — If There Were No Israel, We’d Have To Invent One: Biden (10/2013)
The U.S. has the BIGGEST embassy in the Western Hemisphere in tiny Haiti with over 1,000 spooks working there day and night. An Israeli, Mossad-linked company, named HSL has a multi-million contract to protect Haiti borders, land air and sea. But, none of these intelligence folks saw a caravan of 5-9 cars with supposedly heavily armed mercenaries, creeping up the mountain to the slain president’s house in the middle of the night of July 7, 2021. Plus, Dimitri Herard, a U.S. asset, trained by U.S. Special Forces and head of Haiti Palace Security, also has no clue how his men simply dropped their guns and let assassins in to execute Jovenel Moise? But now, as the cover-up continues, a “neutral” U.S. like the inside job Haitians, are coming to “investigate” ??? — Ezili DantòPentagon Says U.S. Team Going to Haiti to Assess Needs
On Sunday, Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel addressed the country to denounce the destabilizing strategy played by the opposition sectors to generate chaos in the Caribbean country. In his speech, the president addressed the protesters’ main dissatisfactions, after having talked personally to them in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños, located some 50 Km to the west of Havana.  “The protests involve many revolutionary citizens who want an explanation for the current situation in the country, but are also contaminated by groups of opportunists who take advantage of the current crisis to undermine order and generate chaos,” said Diaz-Canel.   He also mentioned that the main instigators of these protests do not want any positive change for Cubans but a change of regime to impose a neoliberal model, the same one that has prevented thousands of people from accessing the indispensable means to survive COVID-19. “If they want to have a good gesture with Cuba if they want to help the Cuban people, lift the Blockade,” add the Cuban president. — Cuban President Calls To Join Forces Against Opposition
Countless times over the years, I have asked civic group leaders about the outcome of their “petition,” their deliberative letters, their serious requests regarding desired policy changes, public hearings, new initiatives, and reversal of courses of actions. Their replies have almost always been no answer, no response, didn’t hear from them, and not even an acknowledgment of receipt.— Cuban President Calls To Join Forces Against Opposition

The Department Of YES! How Pesticide Companies Corrupted the EPA and Poisoned America Lianne Sheppard was sitting in her office on a Friday afternoon when a colleague approached her with an old study on the safety of chlorpyrifos. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the Environmental Protection Agency had used the study to set a safety level for the exposure to the pesticide, which is widely used on fruits and vegetables. But when Sheppard, a professor and biostatistician at the University of Washington, looked at the original research that was the basis for the paper and the safety thresholds that were calculated from it, she realized that the underlying data didn’t support its conclusion. “I tried to reproduce their analysis, and I couldn’t,” Sheppard said of the study, which was commissioned by Dow Chemical, the maker of chlorpyrifos, in the late 1960s. The research was conducted by an Albany Medical College professor named Frederick Coulston, who exposed 16 incarcerated men to the pesticide, dividing them into four groups — a low-, medium-, and high-dose group as well as a control — and recording their nervous system responses. The resulting paper, which was written by Dow statisticians based on Coulston’s data, concluded that at the highest dose the pesticide depressed the activity of cholinesterase, an enzyme necessary for neuromuscular function. Sheppard was able to confirm that finding. But while Dow concluded that the middle- and low-range doses had no effect, Sheppard found effects in both groups. She also saw how Dow had used the paper to help the EPA set an incorrect “no-effects level,” or NOEL, which is critical for calculating a safety threshold. By Sharon Lerner
Biden’s Climate Plan: It’s Too Late for Gradualism The climate emergency demands a radical and rapid decarbonization of the economy with numerical goals and timetables to transform all productive sectors, not only power production (27% of carbon emissions), but also transportation (28%), manufacturing (22%), buildings (12%), and agriculture (10%). That emergency transformation can only be met by an ecosocialist approach using public enterprise and planning. Instead, Biden’s plan emphasizes corporate welfare: subsidies and tax incentives for clean energy that will take uncertain effect at a leisurely pace in the markets. Moreover, it does nothing to stop more oil and gas fracking and pipelines for more gas-fired power plants, or to shut down coal-fired power plants. Without out directly saying so, it is a plan to burn fossil fuels for decades to come. By Howie Hawkins
‘Wake Up Call’: Rapidly Thawing Permafrost Threatens Trans-Alaska Pipeline “The implications of this speak to the pipeline’s integrity and the effect climate change is having on pipeline safety in general.” Alaska’s thawing permafrost is undermining the supports that hold up an elevated section of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, putting in danger the structural integrity of one of the world’s largest oil pipelines.Black Liberation/Civil Rights:

Frontline Investigates the Federal Reserve: Is It a Captured Regulator that’s Wrecking the U.S. Economy with Asset Bubbles? Fed Chair Jerome Powell will take his seat before the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday at noon and before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for his semi-annual testimony on monetary policy. Some embarrassing questions may come up for Powell based on an investigative report on the Fed that’s airing earlier in the week. This Tuesday evening, the PBS investigative program, Frontline, will broadcast a documentary covering its year-long investigation of the Federal Reserve’s bailouts of Wall Street, from the financial crisis of 2008 to the present. Florida-Based Doctor Arrested on Suspicion of Plotting Assassination of Haiti’s President Christian Emmanuel Sanon is the third Haitian-born individual with ties to the United States to be arrested for playing a role in the killing. A Haitian-born doctor based in Florida was arrested Sunday as part of an ongoing probe into the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, who was gunned down in his home in the dead of night last week.
Haitian authorities said that 63-year-old Christian Emmanuel Sanon worked with a Miami-based private security firm to recruit the mercenaries who carried out the assassination last Wednesday. According to video footage of the scene, a group of heavily armed assailants posed as officials with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency as they moved in on Moïse’s private residence on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. Education, Health, Science, and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be,  a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People  Vote on Healthcare!
The Main Obstacle in the Fight Against COVID: Inequality A year and a month after that ill-fated March day when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 to be a pandemic, humanity now has available thirteen vaccines approved for emergency use. The pandemic, which has infected 133 million people and left 2.9 million dead, as well as inflicting unprecedented economic and social damage, sparked a race to develop treatments and/or vaccines to combat it. Never before had so many vaccines of such high efficacy been developed in so short a time to prevent a virus-caused disease.  Along with that success, however, 2020 brought a global economic fall of 3.4%, the deepest plunge after World War II. Latin America and the Caribbean suffered the harshest punishment, with negative growth reading 7.4%, leading to a 12% increase in poverty.  By Ariela Ruiz Caro
