Quotes 0f the Day:
In the press release, Peter Rosset, executive director of Food First, said: “This award shows the enormous potential of sustainable agriculture, which is so under exploited in other countries. The whole world should learn from Cuba.” Dr. Rosset went on to say that “in Cuba, organic is for everyone, not just for those who can afford it. In past articles I have written on the importance of the Cuban developments in agriculture. That the chemical dependent agriculture for profit in Capitalist society is making cancer part of our food chain based on an ever-increasing use of pesticides. — Organic Farming — Cuba: “The Road Not Taken”: The Other Cuban Revolution (1999)

United States:
The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War! Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich. The United States as a Mass-Killing Machine We’re a killer nation, a mass-murder machine, slaughter central. On this planet of ours, America is the emperor of weaponry. By the time you read this piece, it will already be out of date. The reason’s simple enough. No matter what mayhem I describe, with so much all-American weaponry in this world of ours, there’s no way to keep up. Often, despite the headlines that go with mass killings here, there’s almost no way even to know. On this planet of ours, America is the emperor of weaponry, even if in ways we normally tend not to put together. There’s really no question about it. The all-American powers-that-be and the arms makers that go with them dream up, produce, and sell weaponry, domestically and internationally, in an unmatched fashion. You’ll undoubtedly be shocked, shocked to learn that the top five arms makers on the planet—Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and General Dynamics—are all located in the United States. By Tom Engelhardt This isn’t a Border Crisis, It’s a Poverty, Violence and Climate Crisis The situation is terrible for those children and their families. But dealing with it isn’t rocket science: The government should authorize emergency spending to expand and build new facilities and hire social workers, health care providers, and teachers to care for these kids — along with an expanded team of family reunion workers. Here in the wealthiest country on earth, we should know how to care for influxes of desperate people. Just ask the teams who welcomed, cared for, and arranged placement for 131,000 Vietnamese refugees in the U.S. in 1975. All that’s missing now is political will. By Phyllis Bennis
Pornography Is What the End of the World Looks Like “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the book and the movie, is a celebration of the sadism that dominates nearly every aspect of American culture and lies at the core of pornography and global capitalism. It glorifies our dehumanization of women. It champions a world devoid of compassion, empathy and love. It eroticizes hypermasculine power that carries out the abuse, degradation, humiliation and torture of women whose personalities have been removed, whose only desire is to debase themselves in the service of male lust. The film, like “American Sniper,” unquestioningly accepts a predatory world where the weak and the vulnerable are objects to exploit while the powerful are narcissistic and violent demigods. It blesses this capitalist hell as natural and good. “Pornography,” Robert Jensen writes, “is what the end of the world looks like.” We are blinded by self-destructive fantasy. An array of amusements and spectacles, including TV “reality” shows, huge sporting events, social media, porn (which earns at least twice what Hollywood movies generate), alluring luxury products, drugs, alcohol and magic Jesus, offers enticing exit doors from reality. We yearn to be rich, powerful and celebrities. And those we must trample to build our pathetic little empires are seen as deserving their fate. That nearly all of us will never attain these ambitions is emblematic of our collective self-delusion and the effectiveness of a culture awash in manipulation and lies.

Build the Ecosocialism United Front! Global Farming Feels the Impacts of Global Heating Global heating has already set back farming around the world, and wiped out seven years of steady advance. Climate change has begun to harm the world’s farmers. Compared with a notional world in which global heating is not being driven ever higher by fossil fuel use, a new study finds that the riches to be gleaned from the soil have fallen by 21%. This, the researchers say, is as if the steady advance in agricultural productivity worldwide − in crop breeding, in farming technologies and in fertiliser use − has been eroded everywhere by more extreme temperatures, more prolonged droughts and more intense rainfall. ‘No Community Should Suffer This’: Florida’s Toxic Breach Was Decades in the Making A leak at an abandoned fertilizer plant is just the latest development at a site that has polluted the area since it was built It’s been a week since a significant leak at a long-abandoned fertilizer plant in the Tampa Bay area threatened the surrounding groundwater, soil, and local water supplies. Last weekend, officials ordered more than 300 families living near the 676-acre Piney Point plant site in Manatee county to evacuate. The sheriff even emptied out his jail’s first floor of inmates in case a “20-foot wall of water” came rolling their way. Paola Rosa-Aquino When It Comes to the Climate Crisis, Those Responsible Should Be Held Accountable In the climate fight, Lee Raymond is the ultimate Bond villain. As the CEO of ExxonMobil, he was the chief architect of a decades-long disinformation campaign to discredit climate science and brainwash Americans into questioning the reality of climate change. Majority Action, has released a list of 30 corporate directors who are obstacles to climate progress—directors who should be voted out of positions of power to make way for people who are more climate literate. By Alec Connon Bozeman Watershed Logging Project Based on Flawed AssumptionsThe Montana Forest Action Plan recently awarded funding to the Bozeman Watershed logging project. Flawed assumptions and science characterize all these state-funded projects. Even though numerous studies have documented that logging/thinning fails to protect homes or reduce fire severity in nearly all instances, the mindless mantra that logging will preclude large fires continues unabated. Greenhouse Gas Levels Surge Despite Slow Economy The global economy has been hard hit by the Covid pandemic. But greenhouse gas levels have worryingly shot upwards. It’s a set of statistics likely to send shivers down the spine of any climate scientist – or everyone concerned about the future of the planet. Despite a slowing world economy due to pandemic shutdowns and other Covid-related factors, climate-changing greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere surged last year. The US government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), one of the world’s leading scientific institutions, says the global rate of increase in CO2 (carbon dioxide) levels in 2020 was the fifth highest on record. If there had been no economic slowdown, NOAA says, the increase in CO2 levels last year would have been the highest since records began. By Kieran Cooke

Police Maunual Proves Real Nature of Police and Planned Violence!: NYPD “Goon Squad” Manual Teaches Officers to Violate Protesters’ Rights Exclusive: Internal NYPD documents shed new light on the Strategic Response Group, or SRG, the heavily militarized police unit behind the crackdown on George Floyd protesters. When thousands OF New Yorkers poured into the city’s streets last summer following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, they were met with the very police violence they had come to protest. In the days following Floyd’s death, and then again during protests last fall, New York police arrested hundreds of people, many with no probable cause. They pepper-sprayed protesters and struck them with batons, trapped them in the streets with no way out, pushed them to the ground, and shoved them with bikes. In Brooklyn, on May 30, an officer pulled down a man’s Covid-19 mask and pepper-sprayed him at close range, bragging about it to fellow officers but failing to provide the man with medical assistance, as required by police regulations. Days later, another officer in Brooklyn struck a protester in the back of his head while he was complying with orders to disperse, causing a gash that required ten staples. And in the Bronx, on June 4, police in riot gear corralled hundreds of people before an 8 p.m. curfew, then beat and arrested them under the watch of the department’s highest-ranking uniformed officer, Chief of Department Terence Monahan. Black Urban Crises and Push-Out “Engineered” Dr David Stovall, author of an article titled, “Engineered Conflict: School Closings, Public Housing, Law Enforcement and the Future of Black Life,” said “one of the ways to attract business interests to cities is to displace those people who you have deemed to be dangerous or politically harmful” – meaning, Blacks. Stovall, a professor of African American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago and an organizer with the Peoples Education Movement, notes that the Black population in Chicago has been steadily declining since the turn of the 21st century.
The Greed of San Francisco’s Hyper-Gentrifying Classes The collusion of high-paid tech workers and real estate interests has created a political force that advocates privatization, deregulation and gentrification as a public good, said Jemma DeCristo, a Black trans anarchist organizer. DeCristo maintains the gentrifiers’ political slogan ought to be, “White Supremacy In My Back Yard.” Blacks make up no more than 5 percent of San Francisco’s population, and Black push-out has become endemic in the Bay Area.
Biden is Mass Deporter of Haitians and Other Blacks A great deal of publicity was generated when Central and South American immigrants were prevented from entering the US during Donald Trump’s presidency, said Tsion Gurma, legal director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, or BAJI. However, “that same level of alarm seems to be missing when we see Black immigrants being deported in very large numbers under an administration that claims to be in line with racial justice issues.”
Yellow Peril and Red Scare: Forum on Anti-Asian Racism Anti-Asian racism is on the rise in the United States and the West and has been discussed most frequently in the aftermath of the murder of six women of Asian descent in Atlanta on March 16th. However, the roots for anti-Asian racism have been entirely left out of the mainstream discourse on the issue. On this episode of The Internationalist Transmission, Danny Haiphong is joined by Invent the Future’s Carlos Martinez and a panel of Chinese and Asian diaspora activists and political analysts to connect the dots between the history of anti-Asian racism and present day U.S.

Pumping the Bubble — B’etting on the Come’:Margin Debt Has Exploded by 49 Percent in One Year to $814 Billion. The Actual Figure May Be in the Trillions. Here’s Why. When Jerome Powell, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, appeared for an interview this past Sunday night on the CBS investigative program, 60 Minutes, he asserted complete ignorance of the amount of margin debt currently being used to inflate the stock market to one new historic high after another. Education, Health, Science, and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be, a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People Vote on Healthcare
