Due to Years of Austerity, Cuts to Public Health Care, And An Anti-Science and Profiteering President, The United States Now Leads the World In Coronavirus Cases and Deaths in the World!
Always Remember: That President Obama, With a Majority Democrat Legislature Supported the Wall Street Bailout and Remember, That he Established, in writing, the United States Capitalist Austerity Program. — The Race to the Bottom/Pauperization of the 99%!
Democracy?: As the Capitalist Robber Barons Steal from the 99%, Only the 1% Voted For Austerity! The 99% Should Decide On Austerity — Not Just The 1% Who, Profit From Austerity!! Under Austerity, All of the World Will Eventually Be Pauperized, Humbled, and Desecrated Like Greece and Puerto Rico.! Socialism Means True Democracy, that the 99% Will Rule, Not the Few!
Quotes 0f the Day:
Trump sought to overturn the election by forcing enough Republican-controlled state governments to doctor the results to give him a slim majority in the Electoral College. He also tried to overturn the results in those states by appealing to the courts. Those attempts failed, and he made once last attempt by organising the January 6 insurrection to prevent Congress from certifying the results. He had the army behind him in this attempt, evident in the Pentagon’s refusal to intervene with the National Guard for hours, as Congress was dispersed by attackers who took over the Capitol. Even then, it was not the National Guard but the Washington DC police that intervened, escorting the attackers out of the building and dispersing them without arrests. The Republican Party is rallying again around Trump, in an attempt to win the elections in 2022 and 2024, by restricting the non-white (especially Black) vote. — Voter Suppression: Trumpism Makes a Comeback
Upon performing a necropsy on the whale, researchers discovered 40 kilograms, aka 88 pounds of plastic bags, in his stomach. Plastic items included 16 rice sacks, four banana plantation bags, various plastic shopping bags, and other plastic items that the D’ Bone Collector Museum plans to itemize and share with followers in the coming days. “This whale had the most plastic we have ever seen in a whale. It’s disgusting,” the museum wrote on Facebook, adding that the necropsy team determined the plastic to be the whale’s cause of death. “Action must be taken by the government against those who continue to treat the waterways and ocean as dumpsters.” — A Beached Whale in the Philippines Died Due to Ingesting 88 Pounds of Plastic

United States:
The United States is not a Democracy (A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly)! Only the 1%, through their ownership of the Reublicrats and who profit from war and the war budget, vote for War and the war budget — A policy, which Gore Vidal called a Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. — The 99% Should Decide On War — Not Just The 1% Who Profit From War! Under a Democracy, The 99% would have the right to vote on the policy of Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace! The United States takes from the poor and gives to the Rich. Rax the Rich! — They Can Afford To Pay!
The United States Used Germ Warfare During the Korean War!: Wherever the long denials of U.S. use of biological weapons during the Korean War may have originated, and no matter what the authority behind them, the denials fade away in the face of new unassailable documentation from U.S. government records of germ warfare attacks against North Korean and Chinese military units. The question now is how will U.S. historians, political scientists, the press, and the public respond to this turnabout regarding the old germ war charges. We Should All Be Afraid of the New Cold War 2021 Ilooks a lot like 1981—and that should scare us. The future isn’t what it used to be. As a teenager in the 1970s, I watched a lot of TV science fiction shows, notably Space: 1999 and UFO, that imagined a near future of major moon bases and alien attacks on Earth. Movies of that era like Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey envisioned colossal spaceships and space stations featuring international crews on mind-blowing missions to Jupiter and beyond. Who’d have thought that, 20 years after Kubrick’s alternate reality of 2001, we humans would effectively be marooned on a warming “sixth extinction” planet with no moon bases and, to the best of my know ledge, no alien attacks eitherther. United States: Right to Vote Under Assault Voting rights are under attack in the United States. In 43 out of 50 states, legislation seeks to limit voting rights for Black and Brown citizens. The Republican Party is leading the attack, following on from former President Donald Trump’s big lie that last year’s presidential election was stolen from him. A vast majority of Republicans agree. By Malik MiahVoter Suppression: Trumpism Makes a Comeback The failure of the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol to overturn the 2020 election led many progressives and socialists to think Donald Trump was finished But it has become clearer that the Republican Party remains under Trump’s control. The Republican Party’s united and concerted drive against the right to vote is justified by Trump’s continued assertion — supported by most Republican lawmakers — that he “won” the election, but was deprived of his victory by widespread electoral “fraud”. Consequently, their drive against voting rights — which is being drummed up in the rightist media and supported by Republicans in the Senate and House — is just an attempt to “eliminate” this fraud. Congress Urged to Reject Biden’s ‘Unconscionable’ $715B Pentagon Budget “Throwing money at the Pentagon does not keep us safe from modern day threats.” Politico reported late Thursday that the Pentagon budget topline the president is set to propose represents “a roughly 1.5% increase in defense spending from the current year’s [$704 billion] level, making it effectively an inflation-adjusted budget boost.” The $715 billion would be for the Pentagon only, not including military-related spending for other agencies such as the Energy Department, which maintains the country’s nuclear weapons. Capitalism in the Era of Decay — Crumbling Infrastructure and Environmental Destruction!: Economists Warn Democrats ‘Going Too Small’ on Infrastructure Risks Economic and Climate Catastrophe “The costs of inaction outweigh the risks of borrowing to take action—by trillions of dollars.” Pointing to the nation’s tepid recovery from the 2009 financial collapse as a cautionary tale, economists are pressing Democratic lawmakers to dramatically expand President Joe Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure proposal in order to equitably rebound from the coronavirus crisis, achieve full employment, and combat the existential climate emergency. In a 38-page report (pdf) released Thursday, Dr. Adam Hersh of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Dr. Mark Paul of the New College of Florida argue that the costs of allowing the economy to run “too cold” by under-spending on pressing needs far outweigh the risks of inflation and other potential consequences of overshooting. Environment:
‘We are in the midst of a climate emergency and there is no way out without radically changing the way society is organised. If humanity does not free itself from the capitalist drive for ever greater profits and ever-expanding economic growth, rising global temperatures alone will make the planet uninhabitable for humans and millions of other living species. We urgently need to find a collective road to a new way of living that is based on human solidarity and ecological sustainability!’ (See An Ecosocialist Manifesto: For an Egalitarian, Cooperative Road to Ecosocialism!)
. . . Since environmental illness and destruction are a global concern, it requires all of humanity to act collectively, in our overall interests for our survival as a species, to correct the problem and to remove the obstacle of capitalism. It requires a society where humanity has social, economic, and political control over the entire environment. Such a society, a socialist society, is needed to ensure that all decisions affecting the environment are under the democratic control of humankind so that the production of goods will be done for the needs and survival of humanity instead of the production and the destruction of humanity and other species for profit. With common ownership of the means of production, and common control and protection of all property and wealth, science and society will be in harmony with the ecosystem and humanity’s future. With these goals we can begin to build a more effective environmental movement. As we continue to organize against capitalism and its destructive course, we can and will transform the world! . . . – Whither Humanity? The Environmental Crisis of Capitalism (1999)
Final Statement Of The 2020 Ecosocialist Conference For Climate Justice Produce less, share better, decide together! The corona pandemic has exposed the fragility of the neoliberal global economy. We will face yet another wave of austerity and unemployment, as pro-business governments raise taxes and slash spending, just as they did after the financial crash of 2008. All this on the back of the imminent collapse of global ecosystems caused by ruthless over-production, voracious agribusiness, and the deliberate exploitation of cheap, polluting carbon fuels for corporate profit. We need to challenge the growth-based and consumption-driven system of capitalism. Measures against the climate crisis must take into consideration that women, people of colour and the working class in general are disproportionately affected by the multiple crises of the pandemic, the economy and the destruction of our ecosystems. If we do not mobilise now – this decade – then global warming will become irreversible, ensuring that health and living standards deteriorate rapidly for most people on the planet. That is why we need a global mass movement to force governments to prevent a rise in the average surface temperature of the planet beyond 1.5°C, by 2030. And if vested economic interests seek to prevent this goal being achieved, we need a popular movement powerful enough to change the system.

Police Terrorism/Murder of George Fkoyd: If you’re strong or enraged enough to have followed each day of Derek Chauvin’s trial, you will have seen a parade of somber, eloquent witnesses – cops, doctors, trainers, bystanders, paramedics, martial arts experts – who with stunning uniformity have said yes, just like it looked to a world watching in horror, Chauvin willfully murdered George Floyd with “totally unnecessary” force, his knee “rammed” into the dying man’s neck for over nine minutes. On Thursday, the latest heroic witness, Dr. Martin Tobin, a renowned Chicago pulmonologist and critical care doctor with an Irish lilt, testified Floyd died from a low level of oxygen that damaged his brain and caused an arrhythmia that stopped his heart after his air passageway was blocked. “Did Mr Chauvin’s knee on Mr Floyd’s neck cause the narrowing?” he was asked. “Yes, it did,” he said. Vitally, he added Chauvin’s actions would have killed any healthy person, thus contradicting defence assertions Floyd may have died from drugs or underlying health conditions. Using medical evidence, plain language, anatomical diagrams, reconstructed videos and photo analysis – and suggesting to jurors they follow along by feeling their own necks – Tobin offered a devastating account of how Floyd stopped breathing. “He was being squashed between the two sides,” he said of Floyd’s position – prone on the street, with officers on top of him and Chauvin’s knee on his neck and back preventing him from breathing with his left lung. “It was almost (like) a surgeon had gone in and removed a lung.” In the end, he showed in graphic, stomach-churning photos, Floyd was “literally trying to breathe with his fingers and knuckles,” desperately scrabbling against the sidewalk and police car tire to try and lift his shoulder off the ground to take a breath. Less than a minute after losing consciousness, Tobin said, Floyd didn’t have an ounce of oxygen in his body; still, he said, Chauvin kept his knee on his neck for three minutes after Floyd drew his last breath. — At That Point It’s Just Pain

Financial Fiction Part Two: The New Ones (Spacs, Nfts, Cryptocurrencies) In my last post I discussed recent financial engineering and swindles that are traditional to the accumulation of and speculation in what Marx called fictitious capital, ie financial assets like bonds, stocks, property, credit and so-called derivatives of these. Finance capital is ever-ingenious in inventing new ways of speculation and swindles. In the past we have had the dot.com boom when the stock prices of many internet start-ups exploded upwards, only to crash when the profits of these companies did not materialise and the cost of borrowing to speculate rose. That was in 2000 and followed by a mild recession in 2001. Then we had the huge credit boom in house prices, mortgages and the securitised mortgage packages and their derivatives that fuelled a huge property and stock market boom that collapsed into the Global Financial Crash of 2008 and the subsequent Great Recession. That was followed by a massive injection of central bank money with low to zero interest rates and ‘quantitative easing’ leading to a further rise in stock and bond markets up to record highs. The COVID slump only led central banks to doubling-down on ‘quantitative easing’ to keep the prices of financial assets rising, while the ‘real economy’ based on the profitability and investment in productive assets stagnated. In this 21st century world of easy money borrowing, there have been a spate of new fictions in the casino world of financial speculation. Western Media Incite Anti-Asian Racism When They Join in Cold War Against Chin estern news outlets have deceptively omitted the centrality of media-promoted Sinophobia to this latest spike in hate crimes toward anyone perceived to be Chinese. Over the past few weeks, the subject of anti-Asian racism has received an unusual degree of Western media attention, ever since a video showing the January 28 killing of Vicha Ratanapakdee, an 84-year-old Thai immigrant in San Francisco, was widely shared on social media. Coverage intensified when gunman Robert Aaron Long targeted three Asian-owned spas on March 6, killing six Asian women among eight victims in Atlanta, Georgia. Local and national media centered the gunman’s professed motive of a “sex addiction” and police statements disputing whether the crime was racially motivated, even though gendered racism is still a factor when racist incidents don’t meet the narrow and arbitrary requirements of what constitutes a hate crime (FAIR.org, 3/26/21). Education, Health, Science, and Welfare:
The government of the United States can pass laws in a few days to spend tens of trillions of dollars for war and the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers. Yet, those who pass universal healthcare for themselves, but cannot spend even one trillion dollars for universal health for those who are ‘governed’! This is what is considered, by the powers to be, a democracy and part of the democratic way. — Roland Sheppard, Let the People Vote on Healthcare
