Comments to the ‘Unconcerned Scientists’ and Offcials of the Energy Protection Agency (EPA)”: Dr. Rachel Cleetus, Climate program director with Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) testified in opposition to the proposal. You can find the full testimony here with an excerpt: “This proposal stands in direct contradiction to decades of scientific evidence underscoring the human health harms from heat-trapping emissions… At a time when people across our nation are already experiencing costly and deadly climate-fueled disasters—including extreme heatwaves, floods, drought and wildfires—EPA should be doing everything it can to protect communities, businesses and our economy from the mounting toll. Instead, if this proposal is finalized, it would exacerbate the harms and costs to everyone.  “EPA should not be forcing a false choice between our health and our prosperity. In fact, it is abundantly clear that the economic costs and human toll from climate change are already rapidly escalating… EPA should do its job and stop looking for dubious ways to abdicate its responsibility to protect the public while propping up the interests of fossil fuel polluters.” — Expert Testifies Against EPA Proposal to Cease Regulating Power Plant Heat-trapping Emissions, Available for Comment

200+ Groups Call on Lawmakers to Oppose Permitting Reform That Would Gut Endangered Species Act

A Pacific ‘Blob’ is Pulsing Up the West Coast. Here’s What’s to Expect  Scientists say the Kelvin wave could be dangerous for people—and deadly for wildlife—as it travels up the California coast.  Sea levels across the west coasts of the Americas are rising after a massive bulge of water, driven by wind changes and a warmer ocean, inched its way east along the equator and along the coasts. The phenomenon, called a Kelvin wave, has officials bracing for storm surges, erosion, and transformations in marine life. Networks of satellites and buoys across the ocean have been tracking the pulse of water, which arrived on Southern California’s coast last week and will continue north.                    Experts say that while the wave itself isn’t especially damaging to property or infrastructure along the coast, it can worsen the damage already being inflicted by an increase in storms, climate change-driven sea-level rise, and record-high ocean temperatures, which cause water to expand. It’s also one of the major signs that the much-anticipated super El Niño born in the equatorial Pacific Ocean has made it to North and South America.

Global Heat Forum Seeks to Galvanize Action and Investment The first Global Heat Forum opened today to unlock finance and supercharge solutions on extreme heat, amid record-breaking temperatures and an intensifying El Niño. The four-day event in Bangkok takes place as the Thai capital recovers from devastating rainfall and deadly floods.  Nearly 600 scientists, business leaders, philanthropists and health experts gathered to propel action to protect livelihoods through tools like strengthened heat governance. Private and public sectors joined the forum to spark solutions from local and global perspectives that help communities and countries adapt in an era of increasing extreme heat.     “Two years ago, I launched a Call to Action on Extreme Heat. Since then, cities around the world have established heat action plans and strengthened worker protections. But developing countries lack support to meet this growing threat. Today, I am calling on every city to build lasting defences against extreme heat. That means every part of government – health, housing, energy and transport – working as one. And it means heat action plans in place by 2030 – backed by the systems and resources to make it real,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres, addressing the Forum.

As El Niño Approaches the US: Trump Cancellations Stall $2.2 Billion in FEMA Mitigation GrantsOver 700 mitigation grant subapplications — totaling around $2.2 billion — are in limbo, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). The money comes from a program developed during the first Trump administration to help states, municipalities, and tribal governments fund hazard mitigation projects. The program was unexpectedly halted in 2025, leaving communities that had already begun raising and spending matching funds in a lurch.

Third Aircraft carrier left the Middle East Despite the fact that progress has not been made towards ending the war or lifting the blockade on the Strait of Hormutz That is because the Chinese had shipped advanced anti-ship missiles – specifically designed to sink US carriers and warships – to Iran.  These were not shipped clandestinely but openly as a warning to Americans in order to attempt to restraint them.

A Brief Guide to Trump’s Vote Buying SchemesAs the midterm elections approach, it’s safe to say that things don’t look great for Donald Trump’s Republican Congressional majority. He has responded by the usual threats and bluster, but also by promising to send voters money. Now, it should be said that politicians make promises all the time – to voters in general or to more specific constituents. This is part of the process. But sending out quick payments to voters right before an election, and promising a big payday if voters deliver his party a victory, are highly unusual moves

France: “Generation 6-7 doing May ‘68 all over again”6 October – the third act of the school students’ protests that have rocked France since the beginning of the school year – represented yet another escalation of the movement. The demonstrations were huge everywhere. According to the organisers, school and university student organisations, 100,000 marched in Paris alone, and a total of 450,000 marched across the country. The demonstrations were lively, extremely youthful, and mainly composed of high school students, who turned up in quick-moving columns from each school and neighbourhood, armed with hundreds of home-made cardboard placards.
