DEA Assessment Says Trump Boat Strikes Haven’t Cut Cocaine Flow
- On Monday, The Washington Post reported that a Drug Enforcement Administration analysis concluded President Donald Trump‘s campaign of strikes against alleged drug boats has not “reduced the amount of cocaine entering” the United States.
- Operation Southern Spear has targeted suspected drug boats since September, killing at least 221 people across more than 67 vessels, though the administration defends these strikes as necessary lethal deterrence.
- A DEA official explained that traffickers have adapted by shifting to larger vessels and land routes to avoid detection, stating, “When you squeeze the balloon on one side, it always expands on the other side.”
- Findings contradict President Trump’s repeated assertions that strikes slashed maritime trafficking by 97 percent to 98 percent, with critics including WOLA’s Isaacson arguing the campaign is “cruel and illegal.”
- Experts warn the strikes may undermine investigative capacity by endangering informants, while CNN notes the last strike occurred on June 21, though the reason for the operational pause remains unclear.

The Trump Administration Is Attacking Federal Workers with Disabilities As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, the Trump administration has marked the occasion by making it difficult-to-impossible for disabled federal workers to do their work. Workers from multipleagencies allege that the Trump administration has been systematically denying or stalling accommodation requests and rescinding telework as an accommodation. Several employees say they have faced retaliation for requesting telework accommodations in the first place. When the second Trump administration took office, one of its first moves was to mandate a return to in-person work for federal workers. While the order noted that the memorandum should be “implemented consistent with applicable law,” that part has been interpreted generously. Having moved to discard collective bargaining agreements that established remote work benefits, the Trump administration is now eliminating telework accommodations for disabled federal workers who rely on them. While there may be good reasons to prefer in-person work in specific instances, the administration’s blanket approach appears designed to demoralize workers, with discriminatory consequences for disabled workers.
